Common Search & ComparisonOften compared for managerial responsibilities and strategic rolesCompared for technical expertise and store optimization tasks

The main difference between a Shopify Manager and a Shopify Specialist lies in their scope of responsibilities. Shopify Managers typically oversee entire store operations, team coordination, and strategic planning, while Shopify Specialists focus on technical setup, product management, and store optimization. Both roles require similar credentials and are vital in e-commerce environments, but their focus areas differ based on experience and organizational needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Shopify Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Shopify Manager, you need expertise in e-commerce strategy, product listing management, and online merchandising, typically backed by experience in digital retail platforms. Familiarity with Shopify's dashboard, analytics tools, third-party app integrations, and possibly certifications like Shopify Partner or Shopify Expert are highly valued. Strong organizational skills, creative problem-solving, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure seamless store operations, drive sales growth, and enhance the overall customer experience on the Shopify platform.

What is a Shopify Manager?

A Shopify Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing and optimizing an online store that uses the Shopify e-commerce platform. Their duties typically include managing product listings, processing orders, handling customer inquiries, implementing marketing strategies, and analyzing sales data to boost performance. They also coordinate with other team members, such as designers and marketers, to ensure the store runs smoothly and efficiently. Shopify Managers need to stay updated on e-commerce trends and Shopify updates to maximize the store’s success.

What are some common challenges a Shopify Manager faces when scaling an online store, and how can they address them?

Shopify Managers often encounter challenges such as maintaining website performance during high-traffic periods, integrating third-party apps, and ensuring a seamless customer experience as the store grows. To address these, they regularly monitor site analytics, collaborate with developers to optimize site speed, and work closely with marketing and customer service teams to streamline operations. Proactively staying updated with Shopify's latest features and best practices also helps in overcoming scaling hurdles effectively.

Job description

About the Role

Strength of Nature (SON), a Godrej Company, is seeking a culturally fluent, hands-on Social Media Specialist to lead always-on content strategy and execution across a portfolio of multicultural beauty brands, while supporting the Digital Lead across ecommerce operations and retail channel management. The ideal candidate lives on social, moves at the speed of trends, and can shoot a Reel as easily as they can coordinate a vendor deliverable.

Key Responsibilities

Always-On Content & Trend Intelligence

  • Maintain a daily, always-on social presence across all five brands on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube Shorts, and Pinterest
  • Concept, shoot, and edit short-form video content including Reels and TikToks — from raw capture to final post-ready cut
  • Monitor platforms daily to identify trending sounds, formats, and cultural moments and move quickly to publish trend-responsive content
  • Maintain a living trend pipeline and brief brand teams on opportunities 1–2 weeks ahead
  • Develop and execute monthly content calendars with platform-specific creative strategies for each brand

Event Coverage & Live Content

  • Travel to and cover key brand and cultural events — including Essence Festival, Curl Fest, Hue Affair, and other multicultural beauty tentpoles
  • Produce on-site Reels, Stories, TikToks, and live posts with same-day publishing turnaround
  • Build shot lists and content plans ahead of events; coordinate with on-site creators to co-amplify brand presence

Influencer Management & Creative Production

  • Own end-to-end influencer relationships across nano, micro, and macro tiers — outreach, negotiation, briefing, review, and performance tracking
  • Write detailed creative briefs for influencers, videographers, and photographers that translate brand strategy into clear, actionable direction
  • Art direct on-set or on-location and manage production timelines from concept through final asset delivery
  • Build and maintain an active creator roster, managing gifting programs, paid deals, and FTC compliance

Community Management & Analytics

  • Monitor and respond to comments, DMs, and brand mentions across all platforms in a timely, brand-consistent manner
  • Proactively engage with followers, duets, stitches, and UGC to build community and signal platform algorithms
  • Track and report on KPIs — reach, impressions, engagement rate, follower growth, saves, and shares — with monthly performance reports for leadership

E-Commerce Support & Vendor Management

  • Support the Digital Lead across Amazon, Walmart.com, TikTok Shop, Shopify/DTC, and Instacart day-to-day operations
  • Serve as point of contact for .com retail partners — coordinating asset submissions, promotional calendars, and platform compliance
  • Manage vendor communications and prepare retailer-facing materials including content grids, PDPs, and promotional briefs

Brand Portfolio

African Pride — A heritage brand celebrating natural Black hair and the #1 natural hair community online.

Just for Me — A trusted children's haircare brand empowering parents and kids to embrace healthy, beautiful hair.

Daring USA — Bold, fashion-forward haircare for women who define their own beauty standards.

Motions Xpress — Fast, fuss-free haircare solutions for on-the-go styling.

Aer — An elevated, modern haircare line bridging performance and self-care for the next generation.

Qualifications

Required

  • Willingness to travel to consumer and industry events including Essence Festival, Curl Fest, Hue Affair, and similar activations
  • 3–5 years of social media management experience in beauty, personal care, or CPG — managing multiple brands simultaneously
  • Hands-on Reels and TikTok creation experience — you shoot and edit content yourself
  • Proven track record of identifying trends and publishing trend-driven content rapidly
  • End-to-end influencer management experience from sourcing through reporting
  • Strong creative brief writing skills for creators, videographers, and photographers
  • Experience art directing content shoots and managing external production talent
  • Proficiency in video editing tools (CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with social analytics and management platforms (Sprout Social, Later, Hootsuite, or similar)

Preferred

  • Deep knowledge of natural and textured hair and the multicultural beauty consumer
  • Experience with TikTok Shop creator programs, affiliate partnerships, or influencer monetization
  • Existing network of beauty/lifestyle creators and trusted videographers or photographers
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Vendor/Seller Central, Walmart.com, Shopify, or Instacart

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Hybrid work environment with flexibility
  • The opportunity to shape the social voice of iconic multicultural beauty brands
  • Access to global resources and scale through Godrej Group
