What is a Shopify developer?

Shopify Developers are specialized web developers who design, build, and maintain e-commerce stores using the Shopify platform. They customize themes, integrate third-party apps, and implement features to enhance the online shopping experience. Their work ensures that Shopify stores are visually appealing, functional, and optimized for sales. Shopify Developers also help with troubleshooting, site migrations, and performance improvements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Shopify developer?

To thrive as a Shopify Developer, you need expertise in web development with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Liquid, along with a solid understanding of e-commerce best practices. Familiarity with the Shopify platform, API integrations, version control systems like Git, and often certification as a Shopify Partner are highly valuable. Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication skills set top candidates apart. These skills are crucial for building high-performing, user-friendly online stores that meet client needs and drive business growth.

How does a Shopify developer typically collaborate with designers and marketers within an e-commerce team?

Shopify Developers work closely with designers to ensure that site layouts, themes, and user interfaces align with the brand's aesthetic and provide an optimal user experience. They also partner with marketers to implement tracking tools, promotional banners, and other conversion-focused features. Clear communication and frequent check-ins are common, as updates to product pages or campaigns often require quick technical adjustments. This collaborative environment helps ensure seamless site performance and effective digital marketing efforts.

Job description

Location: Chicago, Hybrid Type: Full-timeAbout Brick:

Brick is transforming how people interact with technology - helping users minimize distractions, reclaim focus, and live more intentionally.

Our physical device and companion app turn smartphones from sources of distraction into tools for presence and productivity.

Our mission is to help people take back control of their time and attention so they can do more of what matters. As we scale, we're looking for a Senior Product Manager, E-commerce to own and evolve our revenue-driving and brand-led experiences, bringing together product thinking, conversion rate optimization, and go to market strategies to build a best-in-class experience for our customers.

Job Summary / About the Role:

As our Senior Product Manager, Ecommerce, reporting to the Director of Product Management, you'll own the full customer journey - from acquisition through checkout and post-purchase - optimizing our Shopify storefront, marketing funnels, and onsite purchase flows to drive conversion, AOV, and revenue. Operating at the intersection of UX, engineering, business, and merchandising, you'll build the infrastructure that scales growth while translating our brand into a compelling, high-performing experience.

Location:

Brick is based in Chicago, and we're prioritizing candidates who are local or open to relocating. This role requires regular in-person collaboration with the team in Chicago. As a key cross-functional partner, this individual will help shape how we build, ship, and scale our Ecommerce experience.

What You'll Do:

Lead and execute Brick's Ecommerce roadmap, owning the end-to-end customer journey - from storefront through checkout and post-purchase - to drive measurable improvements in conversion, AOV, and revenue.

Define and own core Ecommerce KPIs, building a rigorous experimentation engine (A/B and beyond) to inform prioritization, accelerate learning, and drive continuous optimization.

Serve as the strategic and operational lead for our Ecommerce platform - prioritizing and delivering features, integrations, tooling, and infrastructure improvements that enable scale. Partner with Engineering and Design to define requirements, evaluate buy-vs-build decisions, and ship high-quality releases.

Collaborate with Performance Marketing and Growth to optimize landing experiences, strengthen message match across acquisition channels, and maximize conversion performance.

Lead onsite merchandising strategy and execution, and own the execution of promotions across launches, campaigns, and discounting - translating go-to-market plans into high-performing site experiences.

Build and lead user research and consumer insights programs - leveraging interviews, usability testing, behavioral data, and experimentation - to inform UX, site experience, merchandising, and product decisions.

Maintain the quality, performance, and day-to-day health of the live Ecommerce experience, ensuring accuracy, brand integrity, operational excellence, and long-term platform health.

What You'll Need to Have:Required:

3-6 years of Product Management experience with direct ownership of revenue and growth outcomes.

Experience working with DTC brands, ideally in Shopify environments (storefront, checkout, themes, apps), or in close partnership with teams building on Shopify.

Proven track record leading CRO and experimentation programs that delivered measurable improvements in conversion rate, AOV, and revenue - leveraging structured research methods (heatmaps, session recordings, usability testing, customer interviews) and rigorous testing frameworks.

Strong analytical fluency, with hands-on experience using tools such as GA4, Shopify Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, or similar to analyze funnels, interpret experiment results, and uncover revenue-driving opportunities.

Demonstrated ability to align cross-functional stakeholders and drive execution across Engineering, Design, and Growth.

Preferred:

Hands-on experience with Figma or similar design tools.

Why You'll Love Working at Brick:

Mission-driven work: Help build products that empower people to live more intentionally and stay focused on what matters most.

High-ownership environment: Work on meaningful projects with real responsibility and the ability to move fast.

Thoughtful benefits: We offer competitive benefits designed to support your health, wellbeing, and long-term success.

Flexible time off: We trust you to manage your time and take the rest you need to do your best work.

Strong team culture: Join a small, ambitious team that is kind, collaborative, and deeply committed to the mission.

Room to grow: You'll learn quickly, take on new challenges, and grow alongside the company.

Compensation: $150,000-165,000 + equity based on experience
