A Shopify Data Scientist is a professional who analyzes data from the Shopify platform to provide insights that help businesses make informed decisions. They work with large datasets, using statistical methods, machine learning, and data visualization to uncover trends, optimize store performance, and improve customer experiences. Shopify Data Scientists may focus on areas such as sales analysis, customer behavior, marketing effectiveness, or inventory management. Their work helps merchants identify opportunities for growth and efficiency. They typically have strong skills in programming, statistics, and e-commerce analytics.

Shopify Data Scientists work closely with both product managers and engineers throughout the product development lifecycle. They help define project goals using data-driven insights, design experiments to test features, and analyze results to guide product decisions. Regular meetings, paired work sessions, and shared dashboards are common ways they stay aligned across teams. This collaborative approach ensures that data science solutions are practical, scalable, and directly tied to business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Shopify Data Scientist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Shopify Data Scientist, you need a strong background in statistics, data analysis, programming (typically Python or R), and a relevant degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field. Lead Recruiter

Lead Recruiter

Enigma

New York, NY • On-site

Full-time

Posted 26 days ago

Job description

The Opportunity
Enigma is the most reliable, trusted source of data on businesses in the United States. Built on industry-leading entity resolution and the most comprehensive collection of trusted U.S. government data, Enigma powers KYB, screening and AML compliance, merchant payment risk, and go-to-market account-based data enrichment. Enigma provides ground-truth business identity and financial signal data that financial institutions, data platforms, and AI systems rely on to understand and verify businesses, delivered through APIs and Agents to support mission-critical workflows.
We're at an inflection point as a company: scaling both our product and the teams building it. Hiring exceptional people, particularly in engineering, data science, product, and GTM, is one of the most important levers we have.
We're looking for a Lead Recruiter who wants to operate as a true partner in building the company, not just filling reqs.
The Role
This is a sourcing-heavy, end-to-end recruiting role focused on some of the hardest and most business-critical hiring problems at Enigma.
You'll partner closely with technical and company leadership to identify, engage, and close high-caliber talent across engineering, data science, AI/ML, product, and go-to-market functions. Many of these searches require creativity, persistence, and strong judgment. The profiles we're looking for are often highly specialized and rarely actively applying.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys going deep: understanding technical domains, shaping search strategy, influencing hiring decisions, and helping build recruiting systems that scale with the company.
You won't just run processes. You'll help define how Enigma identifies and hires talent in highly competitive markets.
What You'll Do
  • Lead full-cycle recruiting for high-impact roles across Engineering, Data Science, Product, and GTM
  • Build and execute creative, multi-channel sourcing strategies to engage top talent
  • Develop deep pipelines through outbound outreach, referrals, networking, and talent mapping
  • Manage candidates through the full interview process, including screening, scheduling and coordination, calibration, offer management, and closing
  • Partner closely with hiring managers to align on profiles, calibrate candidates, and drive searches forward
  • Continuously test and refine sourcing approaches, messaging, interview processes, and recruiting tools to improve conversion and quality
  • Bring insights from the market back to the team and inform hiring strategy, compensation expectations, and talent availability
  • Help elevate recruiting at Enigma by sharing best practices, improving processes, and contributing to a strong recruiting culture
What Makes This Role Exciting?
  • High Impact Recruiting Problems: You'll work on complex, high-signal searches across AI/ML, data infrastructure, product engineering, and GTM, often partnering directly with company leadership.
  • Real Ownership: This role spans the full recruiting lifecycle, from market mapping and outbound sourcing through closing and process design. You'll have significant autonomy and influence over how recruiting operates at Enigma.
  • Embedded Partnership: Recruiting at Enigma is highly collaborative and deeply connected to company strategy. You'll work closely with hiring managers and leadership teams who care deeply about hiring quality and talent density.
Our Ideal Candidate
  • Has 3+ years of experience in sourcing or full-cycle recruiting in a high-growth or startup environment, with a strong emphasis on proactive sourcing
  • Has a track record of successfully recruiting for complex or competitive roles (e.g., engineering, data science, product, or similar)
  • Takes a curious, hypothesis-driven approach to sourcing, you're constantly testing and iterating
  • Is highly resourceful and creative in identifying, engaging, and closing candidates
  • Builds credibility quickly with both candidates and hiring teams
  • Is organized and able to manage multiple searches and pipelines simultaneously (we use Greenhouse)
  • Operates with ownership, urgency, and resilience, especially when searches are challenging or evolving
  • Cares deeply about candidate experience and understands how strong recruiting processes shape a company's reputation and ability to scale
About Us
Every system that touches a U.S. business depends on knowing who that business is. Compliance teams need to verify it. Lenders need to underwrite it. Payments teams need to size it. Sales teams need to target the right one. AI agents need to reason about it.
Enigma sees businesses the way they actually exist. Government records, online presence, and real card transaction data connected into one verified identity per business. That's why Capital One, Ramp, Shopify, and Clay all build on Enigma. The business identity layer they all share.
Our core values - generosity, curiosity, ingenuity, & drive - guide everything we do, from how we make our most important product decisions to how we work with and support one another on a daily basis. We're a team of curious, driven individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills, but we're all passionate about engineering deeper understanding through data-together. If this resonates, we would love to hear from you!
We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status.
Salary Range: $120,000-$150,000, plus commission incentive package.
A note on salary ranges: we pride ourselves on paying competitively for our size and industry. Salary is one piece of a total Enigma compensation package that includes additional benefits and opportunities. All of our compensation packages include equity because we believe 100% of Enigma employees should have the option to purchase ownership in the company and benefit from the value we're creating together.
