Top Tier Talent Group is partnering with a well-established Canadian equipment rental and construction services organization to recruit a Heavy Equipment Mechanic Shop Foreman for their Toronto operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic who is ready to take on a leadership role while still staying close to the tools. The successful candidate will help lead a busy service department, support mechanics with diagnostics and repairs, and ensure equipment is maintained safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring others, solving technical problems, improving shop productivity, and keeping equipment running reliably for customers and job sites.

About the Role

As the Heavy Equipment Mechanic Shop Foreman, you will play a key role in overseeing day-to-day shop operations. You will work closely with the Service Manager to coordinate repairs, support technicians, maintain quality standards, and help drive a safe, organized, and productive work environment.

You will act as a technical resource for the team, assist with complex repairs when required, and help ensure work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in line with company and safety standards.

What You’ll Be Doing

You will be responsible for:

  • Coordinating daily shop activities in partnership with the Service Manager
  • Overseeing mechanics, apprentices, and quality control staff
  • Reviewing work orders, repair timelines, and parts requests for accuracy
  • Ensuring repairs are completed to company and manufacturer standards
  • Preparing and presenting accurate repair quotes to customers when required
  • Supporting technicians with diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repair best practices
  • Acting as a technical advisor on complex or major equipment repairs
  • Assisting mechanics with repairs when needed
  • Monitoring technician productivity, workflow, and repair turnaround times
  • Maintaining accurate records of repair times, work quality, and job progress
  • Providing daily updates on production, safety, and open work orders
  • Helping train, mentor, and onboard new mechanics into the shop
  • Supporting company initiatives related to efficiency, safety, and service quality
  • Working cross-functionally with parts, service, operations, and branch teams
  • Ensuring all team members follow health, safety, and environmental procedures
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop environment
  • Performing other related duties as assigned

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring:

  • Strong hands-on experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • A valid Heavy Equipment Technician license, such as 421A, or equivalent experience
  • 310T certification would also be considered an asset
  • Previous leadership, foreman, lead hand, or supervisory experience
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and failure analysis skills
  • Experience repairing and maintaining construction, rental, aerial, or heavy equipment
  • Hydraulic system knowledge
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach
  • Ability to coordinate daily schedules, materials, equipment, and workflow
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to support multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Computer skills and comfort working with service systems or diagnostic platforms
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required
  • A strong commitment to safe work practices and environmental responsibility
  • Ownership of personal tools required for the role

Nice to Have

The following would be considered assets:

  • Experience with brands such as CAT, Genie, Skyjack, or similar equipment
  • Familiarity with diagnostic systems such as ET, SIS, or related platforms
  • Previous experience in an equipment rental, construction, dealership, or fleet environment
  • Experience mentoring apprentices or junior mechanics
  • Flexibility to support on-call schedules or changing business demands

What’s Offered

This opportunity includes a strong total rewards package, including:

  • Competitive hourly compensation
  • Immediate benefits
  • Disability insurance after 3 months
  • Extended health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid sick days
  • Company pension plan
  • Employee stock purchase plan
  • Life and disability insurance
  • Mental health coverage
  • Employee assistance program and counselling support
  • Safety shoe reimbursement and custom insoles
  • Travel insurance
  • Training, mentorship, and long-term career development

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

This is a great opportunity to join a stable, respected Canadian organization with a strong reputation in the equipment industry. You will be part of a team that values safety, quality workmanship, customer service, and internal growth.

You will have the chance to lead a skilled group of mechanics, contribute to shop performance, and remain technically involved in diagnosing and repairing a wide range of equipment.

Who This Role Is Best Suited For

This position is a strong fit for someone who is:

  • A skilled mechanic with natural leadership ability
  • Comfortable supporting and mentoring other technicians
  • Strong at troubleshooting and solving technical problems
  • Organized, safety-focused, and quality-driven
