Description:

Position Summary

The HVAC Technician is responsible for performing advanced HVAC fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, and quality assurance tasks within the department. This role requires above-average technical proficiency, the ability to work across all department functions, and the capability to train and support new team members. HVAC production worker ensure all work meets established productivity, quality, and safety standards while interpreting and executing tasks based on detailed shop drawings.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Performance

  • Perform HVAC duties with above-average speed, accuracy, and productivity, consistently meeting or exceeding departmental performance standards.
  • Execute all HVAC fabrication, assembly, and installation tasks with a strong emphasis on quality workmanship and adherence to specifications.
  • Utilize advanced knowledge of HVAC systems, tools, and materials to complete work efficiently and safely.

Cross-Functional Capabilities

  • Fully cross-trained and able to perform all job functions within the HVAC department, including but not limited to:
    • Duct fabrication
    • Unit assembly
    • Component installation
    • Brazing, soldering, or welding (if applicable)
    • System testing
    • Material handling
  • Support workflow needs by flexing across stations based on production priorities.

Shop Drawing Interpretation

  • Read, interpret, and apply shop drawings, schematics, and blueprints, ensuring work is completed according to design specifications.
  • Identify discrepancies or potential issues in drawings and communicate them promptly to supervisors or engineering staff.

Quality Assurance

  • Inspect work for quality and compliance across all HVAC functions within the department.
  • Identify defects, root causes, and necessary rework; ensure corrective actions are completed.
  • Maintain documentation of inspections as required.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety practices, including PPE usage and equipment operating procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with 5S or similar workplace organization standards.
Requirements:

Required Skills & Competencies (PW2 Level)

Technical Skills

  • Above-average proficiency in HVAC fabrication, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Strong blueprint and shop drawing literacy
  • Ability to perform quality inspections across all department processes
  • Operation of HVAC tools, machinery, and measurement devices
  • Understanding of HVAC components, airflow, and system design principles

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching throughout the workday.
  • Occasional overhead work and climbing ladders or lifts.
  • Regular use of hand and power tools; repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and arms.

Union Classification & Compensation

This is a union position covered under Carpenters Local 180, classification PWT – PW2.
Hourly Rate: $20.00 – $26.20 per hour (commensurate with experience and classification level).
This position may be subject to prevailing wage requirements, where applicable.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a production or construction environment, often around active electrical, mechanical, and framing systems. Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, dust, and electrical equipment is common. Proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times in designated work areas.
