Job description

SJS Industrial, a veteran owned media blasting, industrial painting, powder coating, and light fabrication shop in Virginia Beach, VA, that serves military and maritime customers, is seeking 2 full-time Shipping Associates to work Monday through Friday from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and 1 Shipping Associate to work 12:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Saturday or extended shifts might happen occasionally if there is a special project with a tight deadline, but the goal is a steady and reliable Monday through Friday 40-hour work week to avoid weekend, and overtime work.

Pay for this position will range from $17-$18/hr. Benefits also include: 80hrs of accumulated PTO, 7 paid federal holidays, 2 floating holidays, and a variety of insurances offered.

The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable Shipping Associate with knowledge of quality control, ensuring accurate identification, packaging, and preparation for customer delivery. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to verify product specifications, and a commitment to maintaining quality standards throughout the shipping process.

The ideal candidate enjoys collaborating with others within a fast-paced team environment and will exhibit conscientious and careful workmanship to ensure customer technical requirements are fulfilled.


Responsibilities include:

  • Remove coated parts from racks only after they have successfully passed the Quality Control (QC) inspection, which verifies proper coating thickness, correct color, and confirms the finish is free of defects.
  • Review paper tags to ensure the color listed matches the coating applied to each part.
  • Inspect racks to determine proper pallet placement, ensuring parts that belong together remain grouped while separating parts designated for different pallets.
  • Label each completed pallet with the correct identification number as indicated on the accompanying paperwork.
  • Ensure all parts are removed from racks before advancing materials to the next stage of production.
  • Perform bagging and tagging operations by matching the correct paperwork to each part and pallet.
  • Utilize the company-issued mobile device to access intake photographs and verify part identification numbers against the original intake records.
  • Confirm that all parts, identification numbers, and documentation are accurate before attaching shipping paperwork.
  • Wrap completed, verified, and tagged pallets to prepare them for shipment to the appropriate customer.
  • Maintain organization and accuracy throughout the packaging and shipping process to ensure customer orders are fulfilled correctly.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist with loading completed customer orders for pickup or delivery.
  • Help unload incoming customer materials and prepare them for production as needed.
  • Support other production and shipping activities as assigned to meet operational needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Accurately complete timesheets and required work related documentation.
  • Perform general labor duties and assist crew members as needed.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Complete other production-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors or the Production Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in shipping/receiving warehouses.
  • Ability to safely use a variety of hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in physically demanding environments for extended periods.
  • Must be capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Must pass drug test and background check.
