SUMMARY

The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the shipping and receiving department. This includes managing a team of shipping and receiving personnel, ensuring the timely and accurate processing of inbound and outbound shipments, maintaining inventory accuracy, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with a keen eye for detail and a strong ability to manage people, processes, and systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES Team Leadership & Supervision:
  • Lead, motivate, and supervise the shipping and receiving team to ensure that all shipping and receiving operations are completed accurately and on time.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on best practices, safety procedures, and company policies.
  • Manage staff scheduling and ensure adequate staffing levels to meet operational demands.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and implement development plans for team members.
  • Resolve conflicts or issues among team members and foster a positive, collaborative work environment.
Shipping & Receiving Operations:
  • Oversee and coordinate the receiving of goods, ensuring accurate inspection, proper documentation, and timely entry into inventory management systems.
  • Supervise the preparation, packing, and shipping of orders, ensuring compliance with shipping specifications and customer requirements.
  • Monitor and ensure the proper labeling, documentation, and packaging of products for outgoing shipments.
  • Ensure that all inbound and outbound shipments meet quality control standards and customer expectations
Inventory Management:
  • Maintain accurate records of all shipments and receipts, ensuring proper tracking, documentation, and data entry in inventory management systems (ERP systems).
  • Perform regular inventory checks to ensure the accurate receipt and storage of goods and verify stock levels.
  • Collaborate with inventory control teams to resolve discrepancies and ensure stock accuracy.
Process Improvement & Efficiency:
  • Continuously evaluate the shipping and receiving process and identify areas for improvement in speed, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Implement process improvements, technologies, or changes that increase operational efficiency and reduce errors.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as order accuracy, on-time delivery, and productivity levels.
Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure that all shipping and receiving activities are performed in compliance with OSHA and company safety regulations.
  • Conduct safety training for team members and ensure proper safety gear and practices are followed.
  • Regularly inspect equipment, tools, and warehouse environment to ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines.
Customer Service & Communication:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal teams (e.g., sales, customer service) regarding shipping and receiving issues.
  • Address and resolve any shipping-related issues, such as damaged goods, incorrect shipments, or delayed deliveries, in a timely and professional manner.
  • Communicate with carriers, freight companies, and vendors to ensure smooth logistics operations.
Reporting & Documentation:
  • Prepare and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly reports on shipping and receiving activities, including volume, order accuracy, and any issues encountered.
  • Generate and analyze performance metrics, and report to senior management.
  • Ensure all relevant shipping and receiving documentation (e.g., packing lists, bills of lading) is filed and accessible.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Forklift certification is a plus but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge or inventory or ERP systems.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping procedures, documentation, and regulations (e.g., DOT, IATA, customs, etc.).
  • Familiarity with shipping systems (e.g., FedEx Ship Manager, UPS WorldShip) is a plus.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates of Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, or business preferred.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in the areas of shipping, logistics, or warehouse operations preferred.
COMPENSATION
  • Salary (exempt) range of $65,000 - $85,000

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position operates in a manufacturing plant environment and is exposed to fluctuating temperatures in certain areas; noises; working around machinery with moving parts; working in close proximity to others; potential trip hazards due to materials, tools, or equipment in the work area; and possible exposure to strong odors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to lift/move/carry up to 50 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods of time; use of both hands to handle or feel objects or controls with or without gloves; stoop/kneel/bend/crouch to reach material; climb on step-stool to access material overhead; climb stairs; have corrected hearing with ability to hear machine alarms; and operate machinery and/or power tools.
