Job Description

This role is about more than receiving deliveries, it's about ensuring every product that enters and leaves the hotel supports exceptional guest experiences. The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor leads the daily operation of the Shipping & Receiving department, ensuring inventory is managed accurately, deliveries are received efficiently, and hotel departments receive the supplies they need to operate seamlessly. This role combines strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and hands-on leadership to maintain the highest standards of quality, safety, and operational excellence.

What You'll Be Doing

Shipping, Receiving & Inventory Management

  • Receive, inspect, and document all incoming deliveries, ensuring products meet quality standards and purchase order requirements
  • Record and process all incoming and outgoing shipments accurately using Birchstreet procurement and inventory management software
  • Deliver food and non-food products to designated departments while maintaining proper food safety and handling standards
  • Prepare and fulfill internal storeroom requisitions accurately and efficiently
  • Maintain inventory levels by ordering stock based on established par levels
  • Conduct monthly inventory counts and complete all required reporting with accuracy
  • Ensure receiving documentation and inventory records remain organized and up to date

Operational Excellence

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe workspaces including receiving areas, loading docks, and storerooms
  • Ensure compliance with HACCP standards and communicate any deficiencies or corrective actions promptly
  • Support the hotel's Health & Safety and Sustainability initiatives and participate in meetings as required
  • Continuously look for opportunities to improve efficiency and workflow within the department

Leadership & Team Support

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and training to the Shipping & Receiving Clerk
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and safety-focused work environment
  • Support other departments by ensuring timely and accurate delivery of products and supplies
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support hotel operations
Qualifications

What You Bring

• Shipping & receiving, warehouse, logistics, or related experience
• Previous hotel or hospitality experience considered an asset
• Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
• Experience using Microsoft Office suite and the ability to quickly learn new systems; Birchstreet experience is an asset
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment
• Sound judgment and the ability to make thoughtful, timely decisions
• A commitment to workplace safety, cleanliness, and quality standards

Bonus If You Bring

• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience
• Experience with inventory control systems within hospitality or food & beverage operations
• HACCP or food safety certification
• Forklift or material handling equipment experience

Physical Demands

The role of Shipping & Receiving Foreman is physically active and requires frequent movement throughout the hotel and loading areas. The position requires:

• Extended periods of standing and walking throughout the workday
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 22lbs (10kg)
• Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50lbs (23kg)
• Frequent bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling carts weighing up to 200lbs (91kg)
• Occasional pushing of carts weighing up to 500lbs (227kg)
• Regular work in varying temperatures, including refrigerated storage areas and loading docks, while wearing appropriate PPE
• Regular computer use for inventory management and reporting

Visa Requirements: Must be legally authorized to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
