Shipping Associates are logistics professionals responsible for preparing, packaging, and dispatching outgoing shipments from warehouses or distribution centers. They manage the documentation for outgoing goods, ensure orders are accurately filled, and coordinate with carriers to meet delivery schedules. Shipping Associates also inspect packages for damage, track inventory, and may operate equipment such as forklifts or pallet jacks. Their role is essential in ensuring that products reach customers efficiently and in good condition.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a shipping associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Shipping Associate, you need attention to detail, basic math skills, and experience with inventory or warehouse operations, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with shipping software, barcode scanners, and warehouse management systems is typically required. Strong organizational skills, reliability, and effective communication help ensure smooth coordination with team members and timely order fulfillment. These skills are essential for maintaining accurate shipments, minimizing errors, and supporting efficient logistics operations.

What are some common challenges faced by shipping associates, and how can they be managed effectively?

Shipping Associates often encounter challenges such as handling tight deadlines, managing high volumes of packages, and ensuring accurate documentation for each shipment. Job description

Position : Distribution / Shipping Associate

Department : Logistics / Warehouse Operations

Location: Auburn Hills, MI 48326

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Audit outbound customer parts orders before shipment by verifying packing slip documentation, order accuracy, part identification, and quantities using established FANUC shipping processes.

• Use Oracle Mobile to complete shipping audit steps, including scanning the order number, delivery number, part label, and verifying or entering the required quantity. If the order, quantity, or product does not match, stop processing and escalate the issue to the Team Lead.

• Inspect all parts for visible damage or rust during shipping preparation and notify the Team Lead when any issue is identified.

• Package customer parts using approved methods and materials to prevent transit damage and maintain shipment integrity. This includes using cushioning material, secure placement of parts, top cushioning, and complete sealing of the box.

• Consolidate parts into one zip-lock bag when practical and appropriate to support efficient packaging and reduced packaging waste.

• Insert the required packing slip into a shipping window and attach it to the top of the box as part of the final packaging process.

• Create shipping labels in Oracle Ship Console by selecting the correct FAC organization, locating the delivery, verifying shipping service, entering package weight and quantity, printing the shipping label, and attaching the label to the shipment.

• Process web-shipper shipments as applicable and verify shipment details before release.

• Place completed and labeled shipments in the designated carrier area and segregate completed shipments by carrier or pick-up method to prevent mix-ups before release.

• Support freight/LTL shipments by preparing freight skids using the approved packaging method, placing completed freight in the designated freight area, recording weights and dimensions in Ship Console, and photographing skids prior to release as evidence of shipment condition.

• Follow approved pallet/skid banding requirements when applicable for skidded items, controllers, and associated boxes.

• Support customer-arranged pick-ups by verifying material, preparing the shipment with packing slip documentation, ship-confirming the pick slip in Oracle Mobile Quick Ship, placing material in the Customer Pickup Area, and obtaining customer signature, printed name, and date on the FANUC copy of the packing slip at pickup.

• Retain signed packing slips and shipping records in accordance with FANUC documentcontrol and record-retention requirements.

• Maintain alignment between the packing slip, Oracle transaction, packaging method, and carrier selection to reduce shipment errors and preserve traceability.

• Protect customer and shipment information used in Oracle and carrier systems and limit printed or shared information to business need only.

• Work closely with Distribution, Shipping, and Logistics team members to ensure outbound shipments are processed safely, accurately, and on time.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Previous warehouse, logistics, shipping, order fulfillment, or material handling experience preferred.

• Ability to follow standardized work instructions, transactional steps, and shipping procedures accurately.

• Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn Oracle shipping screens, handheld scanner workflows, and shipping transaction tools.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced warehouse/logistics environment while maintaining productivity, organization, and quality.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Oracle experience is a plus; training will be provided.

• Ramp ERP experience is a plus; training will be provided.

• Walkie Truck (Pallet Walker), Reach Truck, and Hi-lo experience is a plus; training will be provided.
