POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking experienced Metrology professionals to support and grow our precision measurement capabilities. This role involves operating advanced laser tracking systems (such as FARO or similar) in both shop and field environments.
We are hiring a Metrology Technician/Specialists to execute measurement and alignment work.
Candidates should be able to work hands-on with equipment, travel to customer sites, and collaborate with machine and engineering teams.
We are hiring at multiple levels:
• Metrology Manager - to lead and grow the division
• Metrology Technicians / Specialists - to execute measurement and alignment work
Candidates should be comfortable working hands-on with equipment, traveling to customer sites, and collaborating with machining and engineering teams.
COMPENSATION RANGE
$75,000-150,000 Dependent on experience and qualifications
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical
• Operate laser tracking systems (e.g., FARO, Leica, API) for precision measurement and alignment
• Perform dimensional inspections, machine alignments, and geometric measurements
• Execute precision alignment projects, including establishing and aligning to master reference planes (e.g., ship master reference planes and other large-scale datum structures)
• Support field service projects at customer sites, including setup and data collection
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T requirements
• Generate detailed inspection and alignment reports
• Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and project managers to ensure accuracy and quality
• Maintain and calibrate metrology equipment
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience with laser tracking equipment (FARO, Leica, API, or similar)
• Strong understanding of metrology principles and precision measurement techniques
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
• Experience establishing and aligning to master reference systems (e.g., ship master reference planes or equivalent large-scale alignment datums)
• Ability to travel 50-75% for field work (required)
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience in heavy industry, aerospace, or precision machining environments
• Familiarity with metrology software (PolyWorks, SpatialAnalyzer, Verisurf, etc.)
• Background in machine alignment, reverse engineering, or large-scale assemblies
• Marine or shipyard alignment experience is highly desirable
• For Manager: prior leadership or supervisory experience
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Standard office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is minimal.
