Shell Construction Superintendent Shell Construction Superintendent
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Shell Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on shell and core building projects. The Superintendent will be responsible for delivering safe, on-schedule, high-quality structural and exterior work including concrete, steel, framing and carpentry from mobilization through turnover. This role requires strong leadership in coordinating subcontractors, enforcing safety and quality standards, maintaining schedule and budget targets, and serving as the primary on-site representative for the project team.
Key Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage all on-site shell construction activities, including concrete pours, structural steel erection, framing, decking, roofing, and exterior envelope work.
  • Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, trade foremen and carpentry crews to ensure work is performed to schedule and contract specifications.
  • Develop, maintain and drive short-term and daily schedules (look-ahead schedules) to meet overall project milestones.
  • Enforce site safety programs and OSHA regulations; conduct daily safety briefings, toolbox talks and site inspections.
  • Perform quality assurance/quality control inspections and punch-list management for structural and exterior elements.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment staging, temporary facilities and site logistics to minimize disruption and downtime.
  • Work closely with Project Manager, Estimators and superintendents for other trades to resolve field issues, change orders and RFI responses.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation including daily reports, labor and equipment logs, inspection records and change documentation.
  • Interface with building inspectors, clients and design teams to schedule and facilitate required inspections and approvals.
  • Train, mentor and evaluate field personnel; enforce company policies and promote a collaborative, productive work environment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5-8 years of field superintendent experience with proven experience managing shell or core construction projects.
  • Carpentry background or trade experience preferred demonstrated knowledge of framing, formwork and finish carpentry practices.
  • Strong understanding of structural concrete, steel erection, decking, roofing and exterior envelope systems.
  • Proficient at reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications and shop drawings.
  • Proven track record of managing subcontractors, enforcing quality standards and meeting schedule milestones.
  • Familiarity with construction management software (Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, or similar) and MS Office.
  • OSHA 30 certification preferred; First Aid/CPR and other safety-related certifications a plus.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate diverse teams and work with clients and inspectors.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; ability to travel to multiple sites when required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training, technical certificate or construction-related degree preferred.
