Job description

RSi is looking to fill a Sheet Metal Technician position to support our NASA customer on the Marshall Engineering Technicians and Trades Support contract (METTS). This position fabricates, installs and maintains in good repair the sheet-metal equipment and fixtures (such as machine guards, grease pans, shelves, lockers, tanks, ventilators, chutes, ducts, metal roofing) of an establishment.
 

Summary of duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining and repairing buildings, grounds, and related facilities
  • Installing, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining in efficient operating condition a wide variety of engines and mechanical equipment designed for use in domestics, commercial, industrial, and agricultural activities. 
  • Planning and laying out all types of sheet-metal maintenance work from blueprints, models or other specifications
  • Setting up and operating all available types of sheet metal working machines
  • Using a variety of hand tools in cutting, bending, forming, shaping, fitting and assembling,
  • Installing sheet-metal articles as required

Required Minimum Education/Experience/Certifications: 

  • In general, the work of the sheet metal technician requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience  
  • Experience using hand tools, sheet metal working machines. 

Preferred Experience/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/IT Skills/Certifications:

  • Three (3) years' experience in a related field is desired

Work Environment: 

  • Environmentally controlled, heated and cooled shop area subject to machinery noise
  • Occasional outdoor work

Physical Environment/Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation): 

  • Ability to lift up to twenty pounds on an occasional basis
  • Sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • May require walking, bending, climbing stairs, and navigating shop/machine work areas

Other: 

  • This position may require occasional overtime and may include second or third shift support for 24/7 onsite or on-call support based on customer needs and contract requirements.
  • All positions supporting the METTS III contract are contingent upon successful completion of NASA medical screenings at the beginning of employment and annually thereafter. The need for these screenings is determined based on the outcomes of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Job Assessment Questionnaire.
  • Must meet eligibility for a Public Trust background investigation for government issues credentials and IT access/applicants must be able to pass a security background check per Redstone Arsenal/MSFC requirements. You will be required to provide two (2) forms of Federal I9 documents. You will be required to provide a REAL ID compliant identification to gain access to RSA and MSFC. Your name must match on both forms of ID, be original (no copies/digital), and be unexpired.
