Rockland Manufacturing is seeking a detail-oriented Design Technician with a mechanical background and strong drafting skills to support our Engineering team. This role is responsible for producing accurate, manufacturing-ready drawings and models for construction attachment products, working closely with engineers to translate design concepts into detailed technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and revise detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD for mechanical components and assemblies
  • Produce heavy drafting output including fabrication drawings, weld details, bills of materials (BOMs), and assembly instructions
  • Maintain and organize drawing files, revision histories, and engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Support design reviews by preparing drawings, redlines, and supporting documentation
  • Coordinate with production, quality, and purchasing teams to resolve drawing discrepancies or fit/function issues
  • Assist with reverse engineering of existing parts or components as needed
  • Ensure all drawings comply with company standards and applicable industry codes

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree or technical certificate in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 2+ years of experience in mechanical drafting or design, ideally within a manufacturing or heavy equipment environment
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D and/or 3D)
  • Working knowledge of ASME drafting/dimensioning standards
  • Strong understanding of mechanical assemblies, fabrication processes, and materials (steel, weldments, fasteners)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and BOMs
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy under production deadlines
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software
  • Welding or sheet metal fabrication knowledge
