Job description

Position Summary: Perform the duties required to make solid parts from a liquid metal (zinc) that are the same size and shape of drawings supplied.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
The DIE CAST OPERATOR will be responsible for delivering results that include the following:
  • Operate die cast machines to make a wide variety of zinc castings according to work instructions and/or verbal/written instruction.
  • Place zinc bars into melting pot to maintain proper level.
  • Deliver stacks of zinc bars from stock to Die Cast department.
  • Change die per set-up and clean machine. Check set-up for proper alignment.
  • Re-melt scrap from break-off parts to utilize all available materials.
  • Remove die from trim press.
  • Set up and clean punch press.
  • Break off parts by hand or punch press.
  • Operate automatic machine in department.
  • Observe and practice housekeeping requirements by cleaning and returning tools to shadow boards or tool cabinets.
  • Observe and practice all safety requirements for a die cast operator.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
which may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position:
  • Ability to read, write and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.
  • Ability to work with little direct supervision.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving standardized situations.

Education/License(s)/Certification(s) Required:
  • Job requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide numbers including decimals and fractions. Simple reference use of formulas, charts, shop prints, specifications and computer scanning devices.

Experience:
  • Requires a minimum of one year up to and including three years to gain sufficient experience to perform the requirements of the position.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, stoop and crouch, push, pull, reach, grasp, feel, talk, and hear.
  • Generally moderate physical effort. The employee is required to lift more than 60 pounds occasionally and/or 25 to 60 pounds frequently and move around large areas or to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects unassisted or with the use of a hand truck or hoist.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include clarity of vision at a distance of 20 inches or less with the ability to judge distance and space relationships along with adjusting the eye to bring objects into sharp focus for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts.
  • The job requires long sleeve cotton shirts and pants (no synthetic materials)

  • Disagreeable working conditions. Exposed to any number of elements with two continuously present to the extent of being objectionable.
