Position Overview

Good American is seeking a Senior Designer, Cut & Sew Knits and Sweats to lead the design and development of our knits category. This individual will be responsible for creating elevated, trend-driven collections that embody the Good American brand while balancing creativity, commerciality, and innovation.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in women's contemporary apparel with expertise in jersey, fleece, rib, French terry, ponte, novelty knits, and other cut & sew knit fabrics. They are passionate about product, highly collaborative, and thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of seasonal Cut & Sew Knit and Sweats collections from concept through production. 
  • Research market trends, runway, competitive landscape, and emerging consumer behaviors to identify new opportunities. 
  • Develop seasonal color palettes, print direction, fabric concepts, silhouettes, and design details. 
  • Create presentation boards, sketches, technical flats, and CADs to communicate design intent. 
  • Partner closely with Product Development, Technical Design, Production, Merchandising, and Planning throughout the product lifecycle. 
  • Attend fittings and collaborate with Technical Design to ensure fit, proportion, and garment construction align with design intent. 
  • Source innovative fabrics, trims, washes, and finishes while maintaining quality and cost objectives. 
  • Build seasonal assortments that balance fashion, versatility, and business objectives. 
  • Present seasonal concepts and product strategies to executive leadership. 
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, competitive brands, consumer insights, and emerging fashion influences. 
  • Mentor and support junior designers while fostering a collaborative team environment. 
  • Ensure design calendars and development milestones are met. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or related field. 
  • 7+ years of design experience within women's contemporary or premium apparel. 
  • Strong experience designing Cut & Sew Knits & Sweats, including: 
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, fit, drape, and fabrication. 
  • Excellent sketching, CAD, and technical flat skills. 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office. 
  • Experience working with overseas vendors and factories. 
  • Strong understanding of the apparel product development process from concept through production. 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and thrive in a fast-paced environment. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing for premium denim or contemporary fashion brands. 
  • Experience designing inclusive sizing. 
  • Knowledge of sustainable fabrics and manufacturing practices. 
  • Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams in a high-growth environment.
