The Electrician II, CF is the full journey level of the Electrician series. Individuals perform or supervise the assembly, installation and repair of electric lights, motors, heaters, generators, transformers, switchboards, and other electrical apparatus; troubleshooting of electrical systems; the operation of electrical power generating plants; the maintenance of electric shops; the operation of electrical equipment; advising in the selection and storage of electrical equipment; consulting with other tradespeople; making rough sketches and estimating the cost of minor electrical installations; and the preparation of simple records and reports. This level may also prepare lists of materials and supplies; estimate job costs; lay out a job; and lead the work of craftspeople or assistants; may instruct, lead or supervise inmates, wards or resident workers; maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates, wards, residents, or patients; prevent escape and injury by these persons to themselves or others or to property; maintain security of working areas and work materials; inspect premises and search inmates, wards, residents or patients for contraband, such as weapons or illegal drugs; and do other related work.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Either I: One year of varied experience as a journey level electrician. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship performing the duties of an electrician.

Or II: Five years of varied experience in electrical installation and repair work. An Associate of Arts or Certificate of Arts Degree in Electrical Technology may be substituted for two years of the required experience. (Students who are within six months of completing their degree will be admitted to the examination but they must present evidence of completion prior to appointment.)

Knowledge of principles, methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment; National Electric Code and Electrical Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety applicable to electrical work.

Skill in installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively at a level required for successful job performance; read, interpret and work from plans, drawings, and specifications; make rough sketches and estimates of the cost of electrical work; keep simple records and make reports; instruct, lead and coordinate the work of a small crew, follow oral and written instructions.
