Deli Counter Staff
Evening and weekend availability required
Join the team at Eastside Food Co-op in the heart of Northeast Minneapolis!
We're looking for team members who are visionary, hard-working and committed to community building!

JOB SUMMARY: The deli Counter Staff is responsible for providing excellent customer service, producing quality made-to-order sandwiches and burritos, accurately following recipes, completing assigned production lists, and maintaining cleanliness and organization in the deli. In addition they may be called upon to stock, maintain and clean deli sales floor display and service areas as well as receiving orders and maintaining all deli food storage areas. The Counter Staff may also participate in prepping, packing and labeling food for deli sale using accurate and sanitary techniques. All deli Counter Staff are expected to work with the rest of the deli staff to assist in achieving departmental and store wide goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Customer Service
  • Provide prompt, courteous, knowledgeable customer service.
  • Offer samples, suggestions for purchase, and nutrition information to customers.
  • Direct customer suggestions, comments, and complaints to the appropriate staff member.
  • Assist customers with finding items in the store.
  • Wear approved attire and nametag while on duty.
  • Maintain knowledge of store wide initiatives and the benefits of ownership. Assist customers with becoming an owner when applicable.
  • Effectively respond to departmental phone calls and develop a thorough understanding of Eastside's phone systems

Department Maintenance
  • Accurately execute all co-op recipes and prep as assigned.
  • Adhere to guidelines for order accuracy and proper portioning.
  • Maintain well-stocked and clean hot bar.
  • Participate in evaluating, updating, and creating recipes.
  • Clean, stock, and support Deli sales floor and service areas as directed.
  • Check sell by dates. Record out of date losses, sampling and transfers following established procedures.
  • Receive and stock food and paper deliveries following established procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining walk-in cooler, freezer, and store room organization.
  • Communicate with Deli leads and management regarding production and equipment needs.
  • Ensure proper use of all Deli production tools and equipment.
  • Wash and store kitchen production tools and equipment following established procedures.
  • Ensure floors are clean and safe. Remove garbage and recycling according to schedule.
  • Clean kitchen equipment according to schedule or as directed.
  • Stock and maintain the coffee station.
  • Follow proper shut-down and opening routines.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by the Kitchen Leads and Deli Manager.

Food Handling
  • Follow Eastside deli procedures and MN food safety rules at all times.
  • Assist sales floor staff as directed.
  • Prep and cook food only as assigned on production lists, as directed by Leads and Deli management, and as ordered by customer.

Other Responsibilities
  • Adhere to the safety policies of the department and store, including the proper use of all equipment.
  • Follow work schedule as posted with regular, predictable attendance.
  • Attend all required department and store wide meetings and training sessions.
  • Work cooperatively with co-workers throughout the store.
  • Adhere to store and department policies.
  • Maintain knowledge of management and staff structure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Deli manager and other managers.
