Job description

Join a team that's changing lives every day! The Southern Oregon Education Service District (SOESD) Long-Term Care and Treatment Program is hiring an Education Assistant to support students receiving educational services in our boys' residential mental health program in Medford. This is a unique full-time, benefited opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people in middle and high school, in a supportive, relationship-centered educational environment. With fewer than 10 students, you'll have the time and space to build meaningful connections, provide individualized academic support, and help students achieve success. You'll be backed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team and comprehensive wraparound services, ensuring you have the resources and collaboration needed to make a difference. Unlike many Educational Assistant positions in traditional school settings, this role is dedicated exclusively to classroom instruction and student learning. Your time will be spent partnering with licensed teachers to provide individualized academic support, reinforce instruction, and build positive relationships with students in the classroom. This position does not include duties such as recess, cafeteria, bus, or hallway supervision, allowing you to focus entirely on supporting student achievement and engagement.

Educational Assistant, LTCT
Position Goal:
The Educational Assistant JDEP/LTCT Programs supports the educational, behavioral, social-emotional, and transitional needs of students served in Juvenile Detention Education Program and Long-Term Care and Treatment educational settings. Under the direction of licensed/certified staff and program administration, the Educational Assistant assists with instruction, student supervision, classroom routines, behavior support, safety procedures, documentation, and implementation of individualized student supports. The position requires professionalism, confidentiality, sound judgment, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with students who may have significant academic, behavioral, mental health, trauma-related, or disability-related needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Others duties may be assigned. Essential duties of this position include:

1.Assist licensed/certified staff in providing educational support to students in JDEP and/or LTCT classrooms, including individual, small-group, and classroom-based learning activities.
2.Support student engagement, attendance, classroom participation, and successful completion of assigned academic tasks.
3.Assist students with instructional materials, technology, credit-recovery activities, skill development, and individualized learning assignments as directed by the teacher.
4.Support implementation of student IEPs, 504 Plans, behavior support plans, safety plans, medical protocols, transition plans, and other student support plans, as applicable and within the scope of the position.
5.Assist with the collection and documentation of student academic progress, behavior data, attendance information, completed assignments, and other records as directed.
6.Use trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and developmentally appropriate approaches when interacting with students.
7.Support students in developing appropriate school behaviors, interpersonal skills, self-regulation, problem-solving skills, and positive relationships with staff and peers.
8.Assist in supervising students during classroom activities, transitions, breaks, meals, movement within the facility, and other program-related activities.
9.Follow all SOESD, district, program, facility, and partner-agency rules and procedures, including safety, security, confidentiality, contraband, communication, and student-supervision expectations.
10.Maintain professional boundaries and appropriate communication with students, families, facility staff, treatment providers, juvenile justice partners, school district personnel, and SOESD staff.
11.Support re-entry, transition, and continuity-of-education activities by assisting with records, assignments, communication, and preparation of student materials as directed by licensed/certified staff or administration.
12.Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, respectful, and structured learning environment.
13.Implement approved behavior intervention and de-escalation strategies consistent with SOESD training, student plans, and applicable law and policy.
14.Provide immediate support during crisis situations, including securing the classroom, supporting other students, communicating with staff, and following established emergency procedures.
15.Participate in team meetings, staffing's, professional development, in-service trainings, and program meetings as assigned.
16.Maintain confidentiality of student, family, treatment, juvenile justice, medical, disability, and educational information.
17.Assist with classroom preparation, organization of materials, cleaning and sanitizing instructional areas, and maintenance of program equipment.
18.Report safety concerns, suspected abuse, student incidents, injuries, threats, or other concerns promptly according to SOESD and program procedures.
19.Demonstrate regular attendance, punctuality, reliability, flexibility, and professional conduct.
20.Establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with SOESD employees, local education agency representatives, and others contacted during the course of the workday.
