Job description


Our client is a well-established transportation and logistics organization with a large network of customers, carriers, and operational partners. They are seeking an Account Manager to take ownership of key customer relationships, ensure service levels are being met, and identify opportunities to improve both customer experience and business performance.
This is a highly collaborative role that works closely with customers, operations, pricing, claims, terminals, and transportation partners. The ideal candidate understands the pace and complexity of transportation operations and is comfortable taking ownership when issues arise.
The Role
The Account Manager will serve as a primary point of contact for assigned customers, coordinating internally and externally to ensure commitments are met. This person will monitor account performance, resolve service issues, participate in pricing and bid activity, and identify opportunities for revenue growth and operational improvement.
Experience in automotive transportation, finished vehicle logistics, freight, carrier management, or a similar transportation environment is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Customer & Account Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customer questions, concerns, and service issues.
  • Coordinate with transportation partners and internal teams to resolve issues quickly.
  • Proactively communicate account status, delays, and corrective actions.

Operations & Performance
  • Monitor service levels, inventory, dwell times, and other account performance metrics.
  • Investigate service issues and discrepancies and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
  • Review customer KPI reports and identify areas requiring attention.
  • Work with operations teams to address delays and develop solutions.

Pricing & Business Development
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue and improve account profitability.
  • Evaluate spot opportunities and coordinate appropriate pricing.
  • Support RFQs, bids, and special transportation requests.
  • Work with pricing and operations teams to ensure opportunities are accurately evaluated and tracked.

Customer Meetings & Reporting
  • Schedule and lead recurring customer meetings.
  • Prepare agendas, performance updates, and action plans.
  • Develop and present quarterly business reviews and other customer-facing reports.
  • Track follow-up items and ensure commitments are communicated to the appropriate teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with operations, pricing, claims, regional leadership, terminals, and transportation providers.
  • Escalate significant issues appropriately and maintain visibility until resolution.
  • Coordinate solutions for complex customer requirements.

Requirements
  • 5+ years of customer service, account management, transportation, logistics, or carrier management experience or a relevant college degree with applicable experience.
  • Experience working in a transportation or logistics environment strongly preferred.
  • Automotive transportation or finished vehicle logistics experience is a plus.
  • Strong customer relationship management and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Comfortable working with performance metrics, KPIs, pricing information, and operational data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with CRM, transportation management, routing, dispatch, or similar operational systems preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, carriers, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
