Unit: Med Surg
Shift: 11am-11pm

Required: Certifications/Licenses/Education:
  • Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire.
  • Completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED) preferred
  • Successfully completes Epic class as required by care center/unit.

Job Overview:
  • Communicate with customers, internal and external.
  • Communicate with ancillary departments: dietary, PT/OT, transport, etc.
  • Coordinate activity at nurse's station: Answering phones, answering call lights, customer service with visitors and physicians, paging nursing staff as needed, emptying tube system and distributing items.
  • Assist charge nurse/team leader as requested.
  • Provide clerical support to the department and department management.
  • Maintain forms required for patient care.
  • Operate and perform simple maintenance on office equipment. Place work orders for equipment if needed.
  • Monitor paper and office supplies and order if needed.
  • Update reference lists, phone lists, communication tools at nursing stations and servers.
  • Maintain supplies needed for downtime.
  • Maintain patient education materials and binders.
  • Assist staff with patient admission and discharge process.

Unit Description:
The Medical Surgical Unit is 41 bed unit located on the 5th floor Unit 5100/5200 of the Midtown Campus. The unit cares for patients from 18 years of age through geriatric with medical surgical diagnosis that may or may not require remote telemetry monitoring. Scope of care will include medical surgical patients with complication due to pneumonia, COPD & asthma exacerbation, heart failure, and viral/bacterial infections. Our wide-range of diagnosis make this unit a great place to learn.
