A Series 66 license is a professional certification required for individuals who want to act as both securities agents and investment adviser representatives. It is officially known as the Uniform Combined State Law Examination and is administered by the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) on behalf of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA). Passing the Series 66 exam, along with the Series 7 exam, qualifies individuals to provide investment advice and sell securities products at the state level. This license is commonly required for financial advisors and other investment professionals who work with clients in multiple states.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Series 66-licensed financial professional?

To thrive as a financial professional with a Series 66 license, you need a solid knowledge of securities regulations, investment products, and ethical financial advisory practices, typically supported by passing the Series 66 exam and holding a Series 7 license. Familiarity with financial planning software, portfolio management systems, and regulatory compliance tools is important. Excellent interpersonal communication, analytical thinking, and client relationship management skills set top performers apart. These skills and qualifications ensure compliance with regulations, build client trust, and support effective investment strategies in a highly regulated industry.
