Job description


Title: Laborer
Department/Division:Tribal Services

Status: Full-Time / Hourly / 6:30am-3:00pm

Supervisor: Tribal Services Manager

Subordinates: None


POSITION SUMMARY:


The Laborer will be responsible for providing assistance to the Tribal Services Manager in responding to the needs of the tribe and its residents. This position performs various assigned duties in outside maintenance and refuse work. This position will be providing assistance needed within the community.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  1. Ability to follow directions and work without constant supervision.
  2. Assists in digging trenches.
  3. Assists in cutting down trees.
  4. Clean septic tanks and clean up trash.
  5. It is mandatory to pick up trash on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
  6. Help other Pala Band of Mission Indians departments with anything needed.
  7. Must be able to lift 100 pounds or more.
  8. Be able to endure extremes in temperature or harsh weather conditions.
  9. Set up for Special Events such as: Rodeo and Cupa Days.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, CERTIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES:


  1. Prior knowledge, use and application, of construction and maintenance equipment.
  2. Knowledge of and experience with small community water/wastewater systems is highly desirable.
  3. Proficient in use of small hand tools and power tools is desirable.

  2. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  3. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with people in a varied economic, educational and cultural background.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  • High School degree or GED certificate.
  • MANDATORYValid California Driver's License. Also, attach printout from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • Minimum 1-year general construction or maintenance experience.
  • Physical and emotional condition adequate to meet the demands of the assigned workstation and duties.
  • Must acknowledge and agree to maintain a Drug-Free workplace (including marijuana) as a condition of employment with the Pala Band of Mission Indians.Must pass pre-employment and random drug testing during employment.
  • Must successfully pass a Fingerprint-based background check of potential employees, volunteers, and contractors pursuant to Public Law 101-630 - Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act.
  • Indian preference will apply. The Pala Band of Mission Indians will give hiring preference to fully qualified applicants that are Pala Tribal Members.

All employees are expected to follow the Employee Handbook of the Pala Band of Mission Indians and must adhere to any additional applicable addendums.
