OVERALL DESCRIPTION
We are looking for experienced professionals to fill the role of Railroad Equipment Repair Specialist. The Railroad Equipment Repair Specialist will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, installation, adjustment, and testing of railroad track equipment, associated control systems, and air tools. This position performs skilled mechanical and electrical work to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment used in rail maintenance and construction activities. The incumbent utilizes technical drawings, schematics, diagnostic tools, and industry best practices to identify and resolve equipment issues, perform preventive and corrective maintenance, and support operational readiness. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork while supporting critical railroad operations in both shop and field environments.
*Starting Pay Rate: $38.68/hour - After 12 Months: $42.98, based on applicable contract.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Diagnoses, troubleshoots, inspects, disassembles, cleans, repairs, replaces, adjusts, installs, reassembles and performs tests on controls and components of track equipment and air tools.
  • Advises shop personnel of troubleshooting procedures regarding equipment performance.
  • Performs related work in the accomplishment of assigned duties.
  • Cleans work area and equipment.
  • Directs activities of lower classes.
  • Assists other classes as required.
  • Subject to call during emergencies and storms.
  • Works from an extension ladder of various heights.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all Authority and departmental safety and security policies and procedures as well as all applicable job safety responsibilities. Reports any safetyconcerns, compromises or hazards affecting operations, the public, self and/or other employees. Responsible for personal safety and is encouraged to promote thesafety of others.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of technical school or related experience required.
  • Must be experienced in the mechanical and electrical inspection, installation, maintenance, and repair of track, field and shop equipment, and controls.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic theory; have ability to read, interpret, and work from drawings, schematics, etc.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and be able to obtain CDL Class A permit within 90 days.
  • Required to qualify on governing rules as required by the division standards.
  • Must possess tools pertinent to the occupation.
