Job description

Sr. SEO Content Manager job at Digital Ocean. Boston, MA. Do you ever wonder what happens inside the cloud?

Digital Ocean (NYSE: DOCN) simplifies cloud computing so builders can spend more time creating software that changes the world. With our mission-critical infrastructure and fully managed offerings, Digital Ocean enables startups and small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to rapidly deploy and scale modern applications. As a remote-first organization, our employees, like our customers, are based around the world.

Role Overview

We’re looking for an experienced SEO Content Manager to spearhead our organic content strategy, focusing on developers. This is a key role in driving Digital Ocean’s organic growth, particularly on our educational tutorial content. You’ll collaborate with our technical writers to maintain the high accuracy of our Tutorials and elevate our content to new heights, setting us apart from the competition and delivering exceptional value to our developer community. We need someone who has the ability to help build out detailed processes for our technical writers, editors and Product Marketing Managers to follow SEO best practices regarding on-page optimization. This person should have a technical aptitude and be able to partner to develop forward thinking content geared towards our developer audience, especially in the AI/ML space.

Key Responsibilities
  • SEO Strategy Development: Create and implement on-page SEO strategies that align with content goals, including keyword research, content optimization, and competitive analysis. Also would love someone to think out of the box for developing innovative ways to be forward thinking in our content development strategies.
  • Training and Mentorship: Provide training sessions and ongoing support to technical writers and editors to enhance their understanding and application of SEO best practices.
  • Process Building: Develop and document SEO processes, guidelines, and best practices for the editorial team to follow, ensuring consistency and scalability.
  • Content Audits and Optimization: Conduct regular content audits to identify opportunities for improving existing content’s SEO performance, including updating meta tags, headings, and internal linking structures.
  • Creative Brief Development: Collaborate with the editorial team to create detailed content briefs that include SEO recommendations, target keywords, and strategic insights for new and existing content.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including content team, product marketing, UX, CRO and web engineering, to ensure that SEO recommendations are implemented effectively.
  • Performance Tracking and Reporting: Monitor and report on content’s organic performance using tools like Looker, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Semrush, and other SEO platforms to guide ongoing content strategies.
  • Innovation and Trend Monitoring: Stay updated on the latest SEO trends, algorithm updates, and best practices, and proactively implement new strategies to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Content Quality Assurance: Help develop a process to make sure content meets high editorial standards and aligns with SEO goals, balancing readability and optimization.
Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience in SEO, Copy Editing, content strategy, or a similar role, focusing on optimizing content for search engines.
  • Proven track record of working closely with editorial teams and technical writers.
  • Strong interest and passion for the AI/ML space, which we are.
  • Ability to identify content gaps and areas of opportunity for the development of educational content which resonates with the needs of our target customer audience.
  • Ability to be forward thinking as we are building new processes so our team can grow and scale to support new products and initiatives.
  • Technical aptitude will be necessary to learn and understand our products and the developer-centric content we produce.
  • Ability to track and analyze the right metrics and leverage a data-driven approach when developing a strategy.
  • Curiosity and an open mind – This person will have strong instincts and will know when a deeper-dive is needed to better understand why content is (or isn’t performing).
  • Experience running experiments to prove or disprove working theories. We are always testing. We believe we learn just as much from getting it wrong and aren’t afraid to admit it and pivot strategies, if necessary.
Why You’ll Like Working for Digital Ocean
  • We are proud to work here. You’ll be a part of a cutting-edge technology company with an upward trajectory, who are proud to simplify cloud computing so builders can spend more time creating software that changes the world. As a member of the team, you will be a Shark who thinks big, bold, and scrappy, like an owner with a bias for action and a powerful sense of responsibility for customers, products, employees, and decisions.
  • We prioritize career development. At DO, you’ll do the best work of your career. You will work with some of the smartest and most interesting people in the industry. We are a high-performance organization that will always challenge you to think big. Our organizational development team will provide you with resources to ensure you keep growing. We provide employees with reimbursement for relevant conferences, training, and education. All employees have access to LinkedIn Learning’s 10,000+ courses to support their continued growth and development.
  • We care about your well-being. Regardless of your location, we will provide you with a competitive array of benefits to support your overall well-being, from one-time work from home stipend to wellness allowance to flexible time off policy, to name a few. While the philosophy around our benefits is the same worldwide, specific benefits may vary based on local regulations and preferences.
  • We reward our employees. The salary range for this position is between $105,000 – $131,000 based on market data, relevant years of experience, and skills. You may qualify for a bonus in addition to base salary; bonus amounts are determined based on company and individual performance. We also provide equity compensation to eligible employees, including equity grants upon hire and the option to participate in our Employee Stock Purchase Program.
  • We value diversity and inclusion. We are an equal-opportunity employer, and recognize that diversity of thought and background builds stronger teams and products to serve our customers. We approach diversity and inclusion seriously and thoughtfully. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, ancestry, national origin, caste, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, medical condition, pregnancy, genetic makeup, marital status, or military service.
