Job description

About the Performance Marketing Strategist position

You will implement comprehensive ROI-focused B2B and B2C marketing strategies that span the channel gamut. Your time will be split:

  • 10% analyzing and reverse engineering competitive user acquisition strategies
  • 20% designing marketing strategies and their supporting materials
  • 20% project managing resources to bring these plans to fruition
  • 40% implementing and managing marketing strategies
  • 10% staying abreast changes and innovations in the marketing landscape

Your job is to drive growth across our two business lines. In this role you will:

  • implement acquisition strategies using organic, earned, and paid channels like AdWords, Facebook, Outbrain, affiliate, and more
  • continuously monitor and optimize our campaigns to ensure that we're constantly maximizing our ROI against market dynamics
  • split-test and optimize ads, landing pages, and other collateral across our websites and advertising campaigns
  • reverse engineer competitive user acquisition strategies using our in-house data and 3rd party best-in-class research tools
  • negotiate with traffic sources to improve our ROI since performance often depends on media vendor relationships

Candidate need-to-haves:

  • You have performance marketing experience in at least two of: search, affiliate, native, display, email, and social advertising.
  • You know what the acronyms SEO, SEM, PPC, CTR, CPC, CPA, CPM, and eCPM mean without having to look them up.
  • You're a marketing hustler with a "figure it out" and "get it done" attitude that can break through barriers to execute.
  • You're analytical. You know your way around excel (including vlookups and pivot tables) and may have taken a few statistics and probability classes.
  • You communicate very clearly in both spoken and written forms. You're concise, articulate, expressive, and appreciate good grammar whether you're brainstorming with the CEO on Slack or problem-solving with a partner via email.

Candidate like-to-haves:

  • You've previously managed successful affiliate programs, preferably for downloadable / installable applications.
  • You're somewhat technical. You understand pixel-based tracking and are comfortable messing with a little HTML and JavaScript.
  • You've used Google Analytics, MixPanel, Heap, Full Story, or comparable behavior analytics tools.
  • You've used Alexa, SEMRush, SpyFu, Moz, SimilarWeb, Ahrefs, or comparable marketing analytics tools.
  • You are familiar with SEO best practices. You know the DO's and DON'Ts for ranking well.

Personal traits include:

  • You're methodical, process-oriented, and are constantly thinking about ways to increase efficiency and generate leverage.
  • You're ask for forgiveness, not permission, and respond well to direct feedback when you inevitably make a mistake.
  • You know how to have fun, but can also very deeply focus. We're big fans of work-life balance which means knowing when to minimize distraction and hustle.
  • You're progressive, inclusive, and egalitarian. You're cognizant of your ingrained biases and take steps to mitigate or dispel them.

Here are some characteristics we're looking for in our ideal candidate: technical, good communicator, helper, persuader, negotiator, adaptive, critical thinker, creative thinker, fast on your feet, detail oriented, quantitative, analytical.

You know what's up:
  • You're all about that start-up life. You're motivated by success and have an intrinsic bias towards taking action and ownership.
  • You're logical, subscribe to rational thinking, and prefer making data-driven decisions whenever possible.
  • You can naturally distill complexity. You break down complicated ideas into their fundamental components for analysis.
  • You see both the forest and the trees. You can understand the implications of small changes to the big picture, and can also create a plan for bringing a big picture to fruition one task at a time.
  • You understand the cost of indecision and can break through decision paralysis, even when faced with ambiguity.

You may be a good fit for this role if other positions of interest include: performance marketing, marketing analyst, technical marketing manager, user acquisition, growth hacking, enterprise marketing.

Crush the application process:
