Description

SDi is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer, Systems Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or Research Scientist to support the Advanced Engineering and Innovation team at Sentient Digital. This role focuses on technology research, applied development, and innovation in undersea warfare and maritime security solutions. The ideal candidate will contribute to the design, analysis, and integration of complex systems involving acoustics, signal processing, electronics, and related technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Initiates the design, development, execution, and implementation of technology research and engineering projects, including investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles to potential inventions and products.
  • Plans and executes applied research and engineering work, taking concepts from feasibility studies through prototype and demonstration.
  • Designs and develops hardware, software, and integrated systems appropriate to the candidate's discipline. This may include electronic circuits, mechanical assemblies, signal processing chains, and mission system components, along with the associated schematics, drawings, models, and documentation.
  • Performs product testing, builds and characterizes models and prototypes, and develops the engineering analysis to support design decisions.
  • Performs research, collection, and collation of data from technical studies. Compiles data and prepares inputs into larger reports. Performs assessments and projections as part of the analysis process.
  • Develops technical reports and briefings, project deliverables, monthly status reports, and other finished products. May contribute to scientific literature, conferences, and patent applications.
  • Coordinates interdepartmental activities and research efforts. May provide work leadership and training to lower-level professional and technical staff and act as an internal consultant providing technical guidance on the most complex projects.
  • Interfaces with external entities to collect data and coordinate technical work. Uses and, when needed, develops computer tools to facilitate analysis and design tasks.
  • May be assigned to customer sites and participates in meetings as a representative of the company. May prepare and present technical briefings to customers and upper management. May be required to train customer personnel in analysis methods and findings.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, Ocean Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with 5 to 7 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 3 to 5 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems while working under only general direction, and to independently determine and develop the approach to those solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience carrying engineering or research work from concept through prototype, including design, analysis, test, and documentation.
  • Proficiency with one or more technical computing environments commonly used in applied research and engineering, such as MATLAB, Python, or comparable tools.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills, including authoring technical reports, briefings, and monthly status deliverables for internal and customer audiences.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense Secret security clearance.

Desired Qualifications

  • Active U.S. Department of Defense Secret clearance.
  • Experience in undersea warfare, acoustics, sonar, digital signal processing, maritime security, or related defense domains.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping and laboratory instrumentation appropriate to the candidate's discipline, such as RF, analog, or digital electronics design and test; mechanical CAD and finite element analysis; model-based systems engineering; or applied signal processing.
  • Prior experience supporting Department of Defense customers, including contributions to proposals, white papers, technical reviews, or patent applications.
  • Publication or presentation record at scientific or engineering conferences or in peer-reviewed literature.
  • Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes, applicable technical standards, and program documentation requirements.
