Salary Range: $130,000.00 To $145,000.00 Annually

POSITION SUMMARY:

In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Finance and the Chief Financial Officer, the Sr. Controller provides strategic leadership and oversight of all accounting operations and financial reporting for the organization, ensuring full compliance with Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) requirements, federal and state regulations, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

This role is responsible for the preparation and integrity of accurate, timely, and complete monthly financial statements, and serves as the organization’s subject matter expert on financial audits, including Uniform Guidance (Single Audit) requirements. The Sr. Controller ensures strong internal controls, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance across all funding sources, including federal grants.

The Sr. Controller leads the Accounting Department, overseeing all financial functions including general accounting, accounts payable/receivable, cash management, grants accounting, investments, debt financing, and tax compliance. This position manages and develops a team of approximately 11 staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  1. 1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master’s degree preferred
  2. 2. Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting/finance experience in healthcare or nonprofit environments required
  3. 3. Minimum of 3–5 years of leadership experience managing accounting teams required
  4. 4. Demonstrated experience preparing complete and accurate monthly financial statements in a multi-entity or fund-based environment required
  5. 5. Extensive experience managing external audits and Single Audits (Uniform Guidance) required
  6. 6. Direct experience with HRSA compliance and federal grant management strongly preferred
  7. 7. CPA designation strongly preferred
  8. 8. Strong knowledge of GAAP, FASB, fund accounting, and nonprofit financial reporting required
