Position Overview:

R.H. Boyd is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Senior Editor to join our team. The Senior Editor will be responsible for overseeing content development, shaping publishing strategy, managing external team, editing, and proofreading of various publications, ensuring that all materials align with the company's mission and uphold our high editorial standards. This role will collaborate with authors, designers, and other editorial staff to produce high-quality books, educational materials, and digital content that cater to the needs of our target audience, including faith-based communities and cultural content.

Key Responsibilities and Outcomes:
  • Review and edit manuscripts, articles, and other content for grammar, style, clarity, and consistency.
  • Collaborate with writers to improve structure, flow, and overall quality of content while maintaining the authentic voice and message.
  • Ensure all content aligns with R.H. Boyd's brand values and mission, particularly in faith-based and culturally relevant publications.
  • Manage the editorial process from submission to publication, including setting deadlines, coordinating with external editorial team and production, and ensuring timely completion.
  • Work closely with the design team to ensure that the layout, images, and overall presentation complement the content.
  • Write content as needed in order to bring publications to completion.
  • Conduct fact-checking, research, and review of sources as needed.
  • Provide guidance to freelance editors, proofreaders, and contributors.
  • Stay current on industry trends, particularly in faith-based publishing, to ensure content remains relevant and impactful.
  • Assist in developing content strategies for new publications, series, or digital projects.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of editorial processes and best practices.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field. M.Div. orsimilar degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 year’s proven editorial experience with a comparable organization.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and accountability.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with external partners to influence and drive positive outcomes.
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe InDesign, InCopy, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of grammar, style guides, and editorial standards (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, American Psychological Association Style).
  • Familiarity with faith-based content and cultural sensitivity, particularly related to the Black church and African American history.
  • Experience working with diverse authors and content related to faith, social justice, or community engagement.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback.
  • Understanding of print production and digital publishing workflows.
