The Opportunity: We are seeking a Senior SolarWinds Architect / Monitoring Consultant to lead an assessment and optimization initiative for a large enterprise monitoring environment. The initial engagement will focus on evaluating the current SolarWinds deployment, identifying opportunities for improvement, and developing a strategic roadmap to modernize monitoring capabilities.
This is a consulting-focused role requiring deep technical expertise in SolarWinds architecture, enterprise infrastructure monitoring, and operational observability. The successful consultant will work closely with technical and business stakeholders to assess the current environment, provide architectural recommendations, and help establish a phased modernization strategy.

  • Project Duration: Initial 2–3 Week Assessment with Strong Potential for Follow-On Implementation Phases

Responsibilities
  • Assess an existing enterprise SolarWinds deployment and identify opportunities for optimization and modernization
  • Evaluate current SolarWinds licensing and module utilization, mapping available capabilities to operational requirements
  • Review overall platform architecture, scalability, resilience, and performance
  • Develop recommendations for high availability, failover, polling architecture, SQL optimization, and platform performance
  • Design monitoring strategies that extend beyond basic infrastructure availability to include application health and service visibility
  • Improve alerting, dashboards, reporting, and operational workflows to reduce alert fatigue and improve actionable insights
  • Evaluate event log collection, syslog integration, synthetic transaction monitoring, and operational observability capabilities
  • Assess monitoring coverage across servers, virtualization, networking, storage, voice, and hybrid infrastructure
  • Conduct stakeholder interviews, discovery workshops, and current-state assessments
  • Deliver customer-facing documentation, findings, architectural recommendations, and phased implementation roadmaps

Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience designing and supporting enterprise monitoring solutions
  • Deep hands-on expertise with SolarWinds, including:
    • Network Performance Monitor (NPM)
    • Server & Application Monitor (SAM)
    • Log Analyzer
    • IP Address Manager (IPAM)
    • User Device Tracker (UDT)
    • VoIP & Network Quality Manager (VNQM)
    • Network Configuration Manager (NCM)
  • Experience assessing underutilized or partially deployed SolarWinds environments
  • Strong understanding of:
    • High Availability
    • Performance tuning
    • Polling architecture
    • SQL Server dependencies
    • Enterprise monitoring best practices
  • Experience monitoring Windows servers, network infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and enterprise applications
  • Strong knowledge of:

  • Experience troubleshooting agent-based and agentless monitoring
  • Excellent communication, consulting, and customer-facing presentation skills
