Job description

THE POSITION: THE OPPORTUNITY The Inland Empire Utilities Agency is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join the team as a Senior Compost Operations and Maintenance Technician. Reporting to a Compost Facility Supervisor, this advanced-level position serves as the working lead for operations and maintenance staff at the Inland Empire Regional Composting Facility, helping ensure the safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant production of high-quality compost while supporting the Agency's commitment to sustainable resource recovery. In this dynamic leadership role, you will coordinate and participate in the daily operations and maintenance of the Agency's state-of-the-art indoor composting facility, providing work direction, training, and technical guidance to operations and maintenance crews.

Responsibilities include overseeing maintenance planning and repair projects, assigning and monitoring work orders, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards, operating and monitoring SCADA-controlled processes, and maintaining detailed operational and maintenance records. You will also play a critical role in predictive and preventive maintenance programs, equipment reliability initiatives, air quality management, and the continued optimization of facility operations. EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE: A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is: Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.

At least three years of progressively responsible experience in journey-level operations or maintenance at a composting facility or with construction- related tools and equipment including a front loader. Experience in a public agency is preferred. LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency's vehicle insurance program.

Weigh Master Certificate is required within six months of appointment and must be maintained during the course of employment. Level 1 Certification in vibration analysis, lube oil and ultrasonic is required within 18 months of appointment. Level 2 Certification in vibration analysis, lube oil and ultrasonic is highly desired.

Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) Certification is highly desired. Skills and Abilities Ability to lead by example in maintaining a safe work environment by enforcing safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hazardous material handling, and the proper use of personal protective equipment. Strong knowledge of composting facility operations, including the operation of heavy equipment, SCADA systems, and process controls to support safe, efficient, and compliant facility performance.

Experience coordinating preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities, including equipment inspections, troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and asset reliability initiatives. Ability to prioritize work, adapt to changing operational needs, and provide leadership, training, and technical guidance to operations and maintenance staff while ensuring efficient and compliant facility operations.
