Richmond, Virginia

Full-Time | Hybrid

Salary Range: $65,000–$75,000 + Bonus Potential

Reports to: Director of Financial Planning & Tax

Hybrid Expectation: Typically four days per week in the office, with flexibility based on role needs and training.

Heritage Wealth Advisors is seeking a Wealth Planning Associate to help serve ultra-high-net-worth families and institutions while building broad technical experience across financial planning, tax, investments, estate planning, and family office matters.

Working alongside experienced advisors and specialists, you’ll contribute directly to client work from the start, with responsibility increasing as your knowledge and judgment develop.

This is an opportunity for someone early in their career who is intellectually curious, highly accountable, and looking to build the foundation for a long-term career in wealth advisory.

The Work

  • Support sophisticated client relationships, partnering with Wealth Advisors and Senior Wealth Advisors to understand client priorities, prepare for meetings, execute next steps, and move client needs through resolution.
  • Build hands-on planning experience across balance sheets, cash flow projections, estate planning reviews, tax considerations, investments, and other aspects of a family’s financial life.
  • Develop tax planning and preparation knowledge, assisting with projections, estimated payments, and preparation of individual, trust, partnership, nonprofit, gift, and related tax returns.
  • Participate in client meetings, preparing materials, capturing key decisions and next steps, maintaining accurate CRM records, and taking on greater client interaction as your experience grows.
  • Gain exposure to family office work, which may include reporting, bookkeeping review, bill pay, trust distributions, and loan tracking for complex family relationships.
  • Coordinate across the advisory team, working with Financial Planning & Tax, Investment Advisory, Operations, Philanthropy, and other specialists to keep client work moving accurately and on time.
  • Take ownership of the details, anticipating needs, communicating progress and potential issues early, and following assignments through to completion.
  • Build your professional proficiency, learning directly from experienced advisors, pursuing relevant credentials, and taking on increasingly complex planning and client responsibilities.
  • Help improve how we work, contributing ideas, technology, and new approaches, including appropriate use of AI-enabled tools, to improve accuracy, efficiency, and the client experience.

The Associate We’re Looking For

  • You stay curious, motivated by sophisticated work and the opportunity to continually deepen your expertise.
  • You’re intellectually curious, with a genuine interest in understanding how financial planning, tax, investments, estate strategy, and family dynamics connect.
  • You take ownership, paying close attention to the details while understanding how your work contributes to a larger client relationship.
  • You learn quickly and ask thoughtful questions, seeking guidance when needed and applying what you learn the next time.
  • You communicate clearly, keeping advisors and teammates informed and approaching sensitive client information with professionalism and discretion.
  • You value high standards, balancing accuracy, responsiveness, and deadlines in an environment where the details matter.
  • You’re motivated to grow, seeking deeper technical knowledge, professional credentials, and increasing responsibility over time.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in accounting, finance, economics, business, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of relevant or transferable professional experience.
  • Interest in pursuing a professional designation such as the CFP®, CPA, EA, or CFA.
  • Strong analytical skills and an interest in developing technical expertise across financial planning and tax.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Sound judgment and discretion when working with confidential client information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat, with the ability and interest to learn financial planning, CRM, tax, and other technology platforms.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this position is $65,000–$75,000, based on experience and capabilities, with additional bonus potential.

Heritage also offers:

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, life, AD&D, and disability insurance.
  • 401(k) with profit sharing.
  • Financial support for professional development, certifications, continuing education, and leadership development.
