Job description

A Massachusetts public sector organization is hiring a full-time Senior Systems Administrator to support enterprise storage, backup, virtualization, and Active Directory infrastructure across a large-scale IT environment. This role focuses on managing Dell/EMC storage systems, Rubrik and Dell backup environments, VMware virtualization platforms, disaster recovery operations, and Windows Active Directory services. The position offers the opportunity to work on highly available infrastructure systems supporting mission-critical public services while contributing to cybersecurity hardening, infrastructure optimization, and long-term IT modernization initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior infrastructure professional who enjoys owning complex enterprise systems and improving reliability, resiliency, and operational performance. The organization is looking for someone who can independently manage infrastructure projects, troubleshoot advanced virtualization and storage issues, and help drive best practices across backup, disaster recovery, and security operations. You’ll work closely with cybersecurity, database, and infrastructure teams while supporting a large-scale enterprise environment with significant technical depth and long-term stability.

Required Skills & Experience
· 7–10+ years of experience in systems administration or infrastructure engineering
· Strong hands-on experience with VMware virtualization environments
· Experience managing enterprise storage systems such as Dell/EMC Unity or NetApp
· Experience administering enterprise backup platforms including Rubrik or Dell IDPA
· Strong understanding of Windows Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and core Microsoft infrastructure services
· Experience supporting highly available virtualized environments and disaster recovery strategies
· Experience with VMware ESXi and vCenter administration, upgrades, and patching
· Experience with SAN storage optimization and performance tuning
· Experience with scripting and automation using PowerShell or similar tools
· Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills
· Experience working with enterprise hardware platforms such as HPE ProLiant servers
· Ability to support after-hours maintenance and incident response activities

Desired Skills & Experience
· VMware, Microsoft, storage, or backup-related certifications
· Experience supporting cybersecurity hardening initiatives guided by CISA or similar frameworks
· Experience implementing ransomware protection and backup isolation strategies
· Experience with replication technologies and disaster recovery planning
· Familiarity with private cloud infrastructure and enterprise monitoring systems
· Experience managing large-scale Active Directory forest and domain environments
· Experience developing operational standards and infrastructure documentation
· Strong project management and vendor coordination skills
