Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design and delivery of multifamily building projects. This position requires an active Professional Engineer license, expert-level Revit proficiency, and demonstrated mechanical engineering experience within the multifamily construction industry.

The selected engineer will lead mechanical design activities, coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams, review technical documentation, and help ensure projects meet applicable codes, client requirements, budgets, and schedules.

One position is available in Washington, DC, and another is available in Chicago, Illinois.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems for multifamily building projects.
  • Prepare and review mechanical plans, specifications, calculations, schedules, and construction documents.
  • Design HVAC, ventilation, plumbing, and related building systems based on project requirements.
  • Create, manage, and review detailed mechanical models and drawings using Revit.
  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations, equipment selection, and system-sizing calculations.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable mechanical, energy, building, and safety codes.
  • Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, structural, electrical, plumbing, and fire-protection disciplines.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and client presentations.
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction observations.
  • Review shop drawings, product submittals, requests for information, and contractor documentation.
  • Identify design conflicts and provide practical technical solutions.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and quality-control activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, architects, contractors, consultants, and internal project teams.
  • Travel approximately 15% to support project and client requirements.
Additional Consideration

Candidates with slightly fewer than eight years of experience may be considered for a Mechanical Engineer II or Mechanical Engineer III position if they meet the role’s core technical requirements.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Approximately eight or more years of relevant mechanical engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated mechanical design experience on multifamily residential projects.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Revit.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical building systems and construction-document preparation.
  • Ability to perform and review engineering calculations, system designs, equipment selections, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of applicable building, mechanical, and energy codes.
  • Experience coordinating designs across multiple engineering and architectural disciplines.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and client-service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Ability to work in the office or field four days per week.
