Job description

Halvik Corp delivers a wide range of services to 13 executive agencies and 15 independent agencies. Halvik is a highly successful WOB business with more than 50 prime contracts and 500+ professionals delivering Digital Services, Advanced Analytics, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning, Cyber Security and Cutting-Edge Technology across the US Government. Be a part of something special!

Position Overview

Halvik is seeking a Senior BI Developer to support a high-visibility federal data modernization program at the U.S. Department of Transportation. This program is migrating a large-scale legacy reporting environment - comprising several thousand reports - from Oracle Data Warehouse / OBIEE into Tableau dashboards connected to a Databricks platform.

This is a senior hands-on delivery role. The Senior BI Developer will design and maintain the repeatable conversion process used to transform legacy report definitions into Tableau workbooks and data sources. A significant part of this process leverages AI/LLM-generated starting points - structured report scaffolds derived from parsed OBIEE metadata - which the Senior BI Developer will review, validate, correct, and refine before reports are published. For complex reports that resist automated conversion, the Senior BI Developer will perform Tableau development against Databricks gold-layer tables.

The ideal candidate has deep Tableau development experience, hands‑on proficiency with Databricks, strong SQL skills, comfort working with AI‑assisted development tools, and the ability to establish quality standards and repeatable processes that enable a team of junior developers to execute at volume.

Core Responsibilities

  • Maintain and refine the repeatable report conversion process - covering both the LLM-assisted path and structured step‑by‑step conversion from legacy logic to Tableau.
  • Review and correct LLM-generated Tableau reports.
  • Define validation criteria and quality gates for each conversion path. Review and approve junior developer output before reports advance to QA and UAT.
  • Design Tableau data sources (TDS) that correctly handle complex data structures, including join strategies.
  • Develop complex Tableau workbooks, dashboards, table calculations against Databricks gold-layer tables. Own performance tuning and connection strategies.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers on gold‑layer table design and Unity Catalog for data governance, metadata management, and access control.
  • Identify reusable report templates and patterns across the report catalog. Codify these as standardized templates that junior developers can apply at volume.
  • Work with and refine AI/LLM tools as part of the conversion workflow.
  • Serve as the technical authority on report fidelity for complex and high‑risk reports.
  • Mentor junior BI Developers, contribute to migration playbooks and knowledge transfer documentation, and participate in stakeholder demos and Agile ceremonies.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of hands‑on Tableau development experience, including complex dashboards, published data sources, calculated fields, parameters, table calculations, performance tuning, and Tableau Server publishing.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience working with Databricks.
  • Strong SQL skills.
  • Experience with data warehouse concepts including dimensional modeling, star schemas, medallion architecture, data marts, ETL processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to design repeatable processes, templates, or standards that enable a team to execute consistently at scale.
  • Effective working in Agile delivery environments with cross‑functional teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust security clearance.

Preferred Expertise

  • Experience with BI platform migrations (OBIEE‑to‑Tableau, Cognos‑to‑Tableau, or similar legacy‑to‑modern conversions).
  • Experience using AI/LLM tools in a professional development workflow - code generation, data analysis, documentation, or report scaffolding.
  • Familiarity with Tableau APIs.
  • Python proficiency for scripting, automation, data profiling, or metadata analysis.
  • Experience working in a federal government IT environment.
  • Familiarity with OBIEE RPD structure, subject areas, presentation layers, and BI Catalog - useful but not required.
  • Experience with data governance frameworks, data lineage, metadata management, or data quality monitoring.

Halvik offers a competitive full benefits package including:

  • Company-supported medical, dental, vision, life, STD, and LTD insurance
  • Benefits include 11 federal holidays and PTO
  • Eligible employees may receive performance‑based incentives in recognition of individual and/or team achievements.
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Flexible Spending Accounts for commuter, medical, and dependent care expenses
  • Tuition Assistance
  • Charitable Contribution matching
