Job description

Senior Transmission Line Engineer – Overview

Leidos is seeking a Senior Transmission Line Engineer to work as part of a dynamic team in a fast‑paced electric transmission environment. The engineer will design high‑voltage overhead and underground systems for major utilities, applying NESC, ASCE, ACI and other standards.

Work Locations

Ideal candidates will be located in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, or New Jersey and will work a hybrid schedule. Fully remote positions are available for qualified candidates. Relocation assistance will be provided for candidates able to relocate to Walled Lake, MI or Cranberry Township, PA.

The Challenge (Responsibilities)
  • Execute technical design and engineering tasks for high‑voltage transmission lines, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and standards.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and calculations under the guidance of Lead Engineers or Project Managers.
  • Perform engineering analyses, including PLS‑CADD modeling and structure loading calculations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by learning and applying new technical tools, AI, and automation platforms.
  • Actively communicate and coordinate project progress with the Project Manager to ensure adherence to schedule and budget.
  • Maintain strong technical proficiency in industry‑standard software and Leidos design processes.
Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil (preferred) or Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of relevant experience in electric utility transmission system design.
  • Experience using PLS‑CADD and PLS‑POLE.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
  • Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, with a focus on collaboration across client and project teams.
  • Work in client office or periodic travel may be required.
Desired Experience
  • Experience with TOWER.
  • EIT or PE certification.
  • Experience with LPILE or FAD, Mathcad, AutoCAD or MicroStation, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
