POSITION SUMMARY

Currently we are hiring a Senior Software Development Engineer who will lead the design, development, and implementation of complex digital solutions and systems by applying deep technical expertise to architect and build scalable software applications, drive system testing and debugging strategies, mentor junior engineers, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and shape the overall technical direction and innovation of digital engineering projects. In this role and within the team of dedicated software engineers that you will join, you will work on applications and products that are on the forefront of technology.

Expectations for the Role:

  • Lead the design and architecture of efficient, reliable, and scalable digital solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards and long-term technical strategy
  • Write high-quality, production-ready code, develop complex software components, and implement critical functionalities according to project requirements
  • Drive technical architecture and infrastructure decisions for digital solutions, proposing design patterns and making architectural choices that ensure scalability, performance, security, and maintainability
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Champion engineering best practices including code quality, testing strategies, CI/CD pipelines, and observability
  • Own the quality assurance process for complex features - write and execute comprehensive unit and integration tests, conduct thorough code reviews, debug, and troubleshoot production issues to ensure reliability and stability
  • Lead technical discussions and contribute to cross-functional planning with product, operations, and clinical stakeholders
  • Drive agile ceremonies, contribute to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and progress tracking while removing technical blockers for the team
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system designs, architecture decision records, specifications, runbooks, and user guides
  • Identify and drive opportunities for technical debt reduction, performance optimization, and process improvement
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and seek opportunities for professional development, mentoring others to do the same

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of software development experience with specific development experience in Back End
  • 3+ years of experience in Java fundamentals and advanced concepts (concurrency, JVM internals, performance tuning) as well as Spring Boot and Spring ecosystem
  • 3+ years of expertise in GraphQL, RESTful APIs, and microservices architecture, including design and implementation of distributed systems
  • 3+ years of proven experience in database design, development, and optimization across relational and NoSQL databases
  • 2+ years of experience with SDLC, version control (Git), branching strategies, and CI/CD pipelines
  • 2+ years of experience participating and/or leading code reviews and establishing testing strategies using modern testing frameworks
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud-native development and deployment patterns

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and system-level debugging skills
  • Experience in GCP (Cloud Spanner, Pub/Sub, GKE, Cloud Functions)
  • Experience in security testing, vulnerability assessment tools, and remediation practices
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka)
  • Experience with data migration strategies and database modernization
  • Familiarity with observability and monitoring tools

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (High School Diploma and 4 years relevant experience)

The typical pay range for this role is:

$83,430.00 - $222,480.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
