Summary
HII Mission Technologies' System Integration group is seeking a Senior Systems Integration Engineer to support the integration, testing, and deployment of the Advanced Training Domain (ATD) System-a shipboard combat system trainer that enhances U.S. Navy operational readiness. This full-time, on-site role is part of a highly skilled engineering team delivering reliable, high-fidelity mission training capabilities.
In this role, you will ensure software components, data interfaces, system services, and third-party integrations operate cohesively as part of a fully integrated combat system training environment.

• Integration of high-fidelity combat system training capabilities used across the U.S. Navy
• Collaboration with developers, testers, and systems engineers to solve real-world integration challenges
• Mission-critical systems that enhance national defense and strengthen warfighter readiness
Key Job Responsibilities
  • Define and execute cross-platform (Windows/Linux) integration approaches, sequencing, and risk-mitigation strategies for multi-component systems
  • Develop and maintain system architecture views, interface definitions (ICDs), data flows, and configuration baselines to ensure subsystem compatibility and interoperability
  • Author integration plans, deployment runbooks, verification procedures, and acceptance criteria; ensure environment parity and version alignment across development, test, and shipboard environments
  • Diagnose complex software, OS, storage, and network interactions; lead root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions
  • Direct integration and end-to-end testing (functional, performance, resilience/failover); ensure test coverage, traceability, and readiness evidence
  • Implement and maintain automation using Ansible/PowerShell/Python and CI/CD pipelines (GitLab/Jenkins) to streamline builds, deployments, and configuration enforcement
  • Monitor system telemetry, tune performance, and ensure alignment with DoD cybersecurity requirements (certificates, secure configurations, vulnerability remediation, and auditability)
  • Collaborate with software, systems, network, and cybersecurity teams; work with vendors and stakeholders to evaluate components, resolve issues, and support upgrades
  • Lead installation, configuration, and optimization tasks in lab and shipboard environments; support acceptance testing and system verification (up to 10% travel)
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote best practices for integration, documentation quality, and change control
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned to support project and organizational needs

What you must have
Required Education & Experience
  • 9 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree in a related field, OR
  • 7 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree in a related field, OR
  • 4 years of relevant experience with a PhD or Juris Doctorate in a related field, OR
  • High school diploma/equivalent and 13 years of relevant experience

Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Linux (CLI, services, filesystems/permissions, SELinux/AppArmor basics, package management, log analysis) and Windows (services, registry, policies, Event Viewer)
  • Strong Bash and PowerShell scripting; experience with Ansible or PowerShell DSC, and Python for automation and deployment workflows
  • Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing/switching, NAT; diagnostics with Wireshark, tcpdump, ss/netstat, and cross-layer log correlation
  • Experience integrating systems via REST/gRPC APIs, sockets, shared storage, or message-oriented middleware (e.g., ActiveMQ)
  • Proficiency with Git (or Subversion), branching/versioning strategies, tagging, release notes, and maintaining configuration baselines
  • Experience monitoring/tuning system performance; enforcing secure configurations; managing certificates, encryption, access controls, and vulnerability remediation
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and ability to lead integration tasks within sprints

Required Credentials
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must hold a current or active DoD Secret clearance
  • Ability to otain a DoD Information Assurance Technician (IAT) Level II certification or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+) within 3 months of hire if not currently held.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Cisco IOS/NX-OS; routing (OSPF/BGP), switching (STP/VTP), ACLs, QoS; CCNA or equivalent experience
  • Experience with VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V, KVM; Docker/Podman; familiarity with Kubernetes concepts
  • Experience with Splunk/ELK for log aggregation; Prometheus/Grafana for metrics and dashboard creation
  • Exposure to RMF, NIST 800-53, DISA STIGs, and secure baseline enforcement
  • Experience with modeling & simulation systems or U.S. Navy training environments; shipboard deployment or verification experience
  • Experience with ActiveMQ/RabbitMQ/Kafka and managing schema/version compatibility
  • Strong documentation skills using Confluence/Markdown and proficiency with diagramming tools (Visio/Draw.io)
  • Possession of an active IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CySA+)

Work may be performed in office, industrial, or shipboard environments. Must be capable of climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, and tolerating temperature variances. Lifting and moving materials may be required.
