Job description

The Senior Systems Cloud Engineer will work as a part of a team of server engineers supporting mission critical Server and Azure compute environments. The Sr. Systems Cloud Engineer will support all Bunzlโ€™s business areas with the objective of maximizing effective data processing, communications, server resources and business processes using Active Directory, Azure, and other Microsoft 365 technologies. This role will be critical in developing and implementing overall Microsoft 365, Azure, and Windows server governance, and policy. The role will actively drive technical process improvements and technology roadmaps, including defining improvements of existing environments, designing future architectures and refining the Bunzl information architecture.

This position is based in St. Louis, Missouri.

Responsibilities:

  • Administration and troubleshooting of objects, groups, and policies in a Microsoft Active Directory and Entra ID hybrid environment
  • Organize AD user accounts and server objects via organizational units and Global Policy Object (GPOs)
  • Manage Entra ID users, groups, and conditional access policies
  • Maintain and troubleshooting of on-premises and MS Azure hosted Windows server virtual machines
  • Administration of a hybrid Exchange environment, including mail routing, synchronization, and mail tracing across multiple mail security tools
  • Design, implement, and maintain automated patch management workflows for server operating systems to ensure security compliance and system stability
  • Work within existing service management incident tracking system and self-manage projects in a timely fashion
  • Engineer and implement new M365, Azure, and other related Microsoft technologies and provide technical leadership to the department
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of comprehensive cloud strategies, driving modernization and adoption across Microsoft 365 and Azure platforms
  • Develop technical integration plans for business acquisitions
  • Develop and present training for Infrastructure operations teams
  • Research, development, and maintenance of server security in accordance with business standards and industry best-practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance
  • Research, develop, and test new software solutions
  • Periodic โ€œDisaster Recoveryโ€ drills during non-business hours
  • Evaluate, design and architect server system solutions to meet emerging business requirements
  • Create and maintain appropriate policies and architectural documentation
  • Participation in periodic 24/7 โ€œon callโ€ rotation duty to field critical server system support issues

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science, a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications, or work experience preferred
  • Possess expert knowledge and troubleshooting skills with Windows Server, Azure, M365, and related technologies
  • Maintain working experience with Microsoft Active Directory, GPOs, and related technologies
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments (2016 through 2025) across physical and virtual infrastructures
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot essential enterprise networking protocols and services, including DNS resolution, DHCP scope management, and TLS/SSL certificate lifecycles
  • Automate and streamline tasks via PowerShell scripting
  • Apply knowledge of standard system health monitoring and endpoint detection tools
  • Design, execute, and maintain comprehensive server backup strategies and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and business continuity
  • Administer Microsoft Exchange in a hybrid configuration with Exchange Online
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with dynamically changing priorities and requirements
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
