The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Information Technology Division (ITD) is seeking a senior Systems Engineer. The selected candidate will have:

  • Expertise in Windows Server 2019/2022 administration
  • Knowledgeable of DNS and DHCP technologies
  • Provide day-to-day system administration on Windows 2008, 2012, 2016, 2019, 2022, user account management, log/ event log review, active directory management, group policies, patching, and system maintenance.
  • Extensive systems administration experience on the Windows Server platform, with web/app server deployments and operations including IP, HTTP, HTTPS, load balancing, clustering, firewall rules, failover, monitoring, diagnostics, and performance tuning, etc.
  • Experience in configuration, customization, and creation of workflows, plugins, web services, reports, and Integration of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of the Information Technology field and computer systems. Experience in configuration, customization, and creation of workflows, plugins, web services, reports, and Integration of Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
  • Support in the areas of server and applications architecture, systems integration, and Internet/Intranet deployment for various .NET applications, as well as work in other aspects to support many other VDOT applications.
  • Experience working with Operating System Configuration/Administration (Windows/Linux)
  • Must document significant experience with Windows Server Operating system, IIS, SQL Server, Active Directory, PowerShell, and client applications, including Outlook, web browsers, and Office tools.
  • Documents current systems and develops recommendations of how to proceed with the applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities to get to the source of problems and think critically regarding possible solutions.
  • Serves as a liaison or technical resource for the development team and partners within business units.
  • Ensures compliance with all established architecture standards and SDLC and PMLC methodologies.
  • Perform installations of software (including server upgrades and patching)
  • Monitor servers to maintain/ensure system uptime and availability.
  • Troubleshoot application/database performance issues related to connectivity, access, security.
  • Experience managing/leveraging/utilizing SharePoint.
  • Successfully participated in 3 + large scale software development efforts
  • Strong ability to take ownership of assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Microsoft Dynamics CRM Certification(s) (a plus)
  • PowerShell scripting experience (a plus)
  • Programming / Scripting languages (a plus)
  • TCP/IP networking - Window Server 2016 (a plus)
