Job description

Structural Engineer (Early Career)

Location: Portsmouth, NH
Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 + Full Benefits
Experience: 1–5 Years

A well-established structural and civil engineering firm on the New Hampshire Seacoast is seeking a Structural Engineer to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer who wants hands-on project exposure, mentorship from experienced professionals, and the chance to grow within a collaborative, stable firm with deep local roots.

This is not a giant corporate engineering environment where you get stuck doing one narrow task for years. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers, contribute to meaningful projects, and continue developing both technically and professionally.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out
  • Strong mentorship from experienced structural and civil engineering leadership
  • Excellent exposure to real projects—not just repetitive production work
  • Stable, well-respected firm with very low turnover
  • Supportive, collaborative culture where people genuinely enjoy working together
  • Work-life balance is valued
  • Excellent benefits package, including 100% employer-paid health insurance for individual coverage
  • Company outings and team events throughout the year
  • Newly expanded office with long-term growth plans
Position Overview

The Structural Engineer will support the design, analysis, and documentation of structural systems across a variety of commercial, institutional, and development-related projects. This role is ideal for someone eager to strengthen their technical foundation while learning directly from senior engineers in a practical, team-oriented setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with structural analysis, design, and preparation of construction documents
  • Work on structural systems for commercial, institutional, and site-related building projects
  • Perform engineering calculations and assist with design development
  • Support drafting and coordination efforts using engineering software and AutoCAD
  • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, architects, consultants, and clients
  • Participate in project meetings and assist with technical problem-solving
  • Conduct occasional field visits, site observations, and construction support activities
  • Continue professional development toward PE licensure if not already licensed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus (Master’s is a plus)
  • 1–5 years of structural engineering experience
  • EIT strongly preferred; PE track encouraged
  • Familiarity with structural analysis and design software
  • AutoCAD experience preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an office-based team environment
  • Desire to learn, grow, and take increasing ownership over time

You’re early in your engineering career but want more than a production role. You’re looking for a place where experienced engineers will invest in your development, where your work will matter, and where you can build a long-term career without sacrificing quality of life.

If that sounds like you, this could be an excellent fit.
