Senior Structural Bridge Engineer (Technical Lead)

Department: Engineering

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Camden, NJ

Reporting To: Justin Pusey

Compensation: $125,000 - $145,000 / year

Description

Artheon is a New Jersey–based, multidisciplinary consulting firm delivering transportation infrastructure for public and private sector clients throughout the region. Our structural group supports complex bridge programs—from replacements and widenings to retaining structures and staged construction—frequently for New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA). We’re growing and looking for a senior technical leader to help elevate our bridge practice, mentor our team, and deliver high quality designs on schedule. As a Senior Structural Bridge Engineer, you will lead the structural design and delivery of bridges, walls, and related transportation structures; oversee analysis and plan production; drive QA/QC; and coordinate with highway, traffic, geotechnical, and water resources teams as well as subconsultants and clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Lead LRFD‑based analysis and design of steel and concrete bridges, retaining walls, and ancillary transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO, NJDOT, and NJTA standards.
  • Design Delivery: Oversee structural calculations, load ratings, plan sheets, specifications, and engineer’s estimates; guide alternatives analysis and constructability for staged MPT environments.
  • Project Coordination: Partner with project managers to plan scope, budget, and schedule; coordinate multi‑disciplinary inputs; interface with clients and review agencies.
  • Structural Assessments: Lead condition evaluations and load ratings; develop rehab/replacement recommendations with defensible calculations and clear narratives.
  • QA/QC & Standards: Perform and/or direct independent checks; help maintain Churchill templates, details, and best‑practice guidance.
  • Mentorship: Train, review, and develop junior and mid‑level engineers; model sound engineering judgment and clear technical communication.
  • Field/Client Presence: Perform occasional site visits, meetings, and field reviews across New Jersey.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • B.S. in Civil/Structural Engineering (M.S. preferred).
  • P.E. license (NJ required or ability to obtain via comity within 6 months).
  • 12+ years of progressive bridge/transportation structural experience.
  • Proficiency with AASHTOWare BrR/BrD, Bentley LARS, PennDOT Programs (e.g., ABLRFD, STLRFD, BXLRFD), LEAP Bridge (or equivalent), NSBA Splice, and LRFD methodologies.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation (preferred) and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D for plan development.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering NJ‑based transportation projects to NJDOT/NJTA criteria.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; proven record leading tasks and mentoring staff.
