Senior Stack Tester information

What is a senior stack tester?

Senior Stack Testers are experienced professionals responsible for conducting tests and inspections on emission sources, such as industrial stacks, to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. They use specialized equipment to collect and analyze samples of gases, particulates, and other pollutants released into the atmosphere. Senior Stack Testers typically lead testing teams, oversee safety protocols, interpret test results, and generate detailed reports for regulatory agencies. This role requires strong technical knowledge, attention to detail, and familiarity with environmental standards like the EPA’s Method 5.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a senior stack tester?

To thrive as a Senior Stack Tester, you need deep knowledge of software testing methodologies, quality assurance processes, and solid experience with full-stack application architectures. Familiarity with test automation tools (like Selenium or JUnit), CI/CD systems, and scripting languages is typically required, along with relevant certifications such as ISTQB. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication help you collaborate across development teams and catch subtle defects. These competencies ensure robust, scalable, and reliable software releases in complex enterprise environments.

What are some common challenges faced by senior stack testers when working with complex, multi-layered applications?

Senior Stack Testers often encounter challenges such as ensuring end-to-end test coverage across both front-end and back-end systems, managing rapidly evolving tech stacks, and troubleshooting elusive integration issues. Coordinating with development, DevOps, and product teams to address dependencies and maintain test environments can also be demanding. Staying up to date with the latest testing tools and frameworks is essential for maintaining efficiency and accuracy in such a dynamic role.

What is the difference between Senior Stack Tester vs Stack Tester?

AspectSenior Stack TesterStack Tester

Experience5+ years in testing, leadership roles1-3 years, focused on basic testing
Work EnvironmentLarge teams, complex projects, leadership responsibilitiesSmaller teams, focused on executing test cases
ResponsibilitiesDesigning test strategies, mentoring, complex issue resolutionExecuting test cases, reporting bugs

The main difference between a Senior Stack Tester and a Stack Tester lies in experience, certifications, and responsibilities. Senior Stack Testers typically have more advanced skills, leadership duties, and work on complex projects, whereas Stack Testers focus on executing tests and reporting issues. Both roles are essential in the testing lifecycle, but the senior position requires more expertise and oversight.

This is where you can learn from industry leaders and become one yourself. It's fast-paced, mission-based work that challenges the status quo. Be on the team that's changing the world.

What we’re looking for:

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Software Developer to help us build and optimize tech solutions to accelerate our sustainable energy future. At Nexamp, you'll be part of an engineering squad focused on multiplying the efficiency of how we raise and deploy billions of dollars of capital into low-downtime solar power plants. You’ll focus on internal financial modeling tools and will drive impact by writing quality code, steering projects from conception to completion, helping refine our processes, and guiding more junior team members. This role will behybrid, based out of our Boston office, and you will report to your squad’s Tech Lead.

What you’ll do:
  • Deliver value: Internalize our objectives and deliver measurable change for Nexamp and our customers.
  • Write code: Design, implement, and deploy reliable and efficient production software in our React/Django/Azure stack.
  • Elevate your squad: Actively collaborate in sprint planning, execution, code reviews, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Architect for maintainability: Own design decisions across the stack. Establish and execute scalable patterns, standards, and best practices for the squad.
  • Grow others: Guide and inspire more junior developers across the organization through mentorship and collaboration.
  • Grow yourself: Continually seek ways to level-up your own skills and make a bigger impact throughout the company.
What you’ll bring:
  • 7+ years of full stack software development experience at companies with 10 or more developers.
  • Experience building financial forecasting software is a plus.
  • Experience building and optimizing consumer-facing frontend applications in React and Typescript.
  • Experience developing and optimizing web-based solutions in modern Python, ideally using Django, FastAPI, or similar frameworks.
  • Robust understanding of web standards, infrastructure (databases, storage, caching, content delivery, etc.), and cloud platform offerings.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with users and business stakeholders, facilitating software and process requirements.
  • Experience leveraging debugging expertise and a proven track record of independently solving problems.
  • Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git, CI/CD pipelines for automated testing & deployment, and infrastructure tools like Terraform.
  • Understanding of cutting edge AI tools and a commitment to leveraging them to rapidly deliver high quality software.
  • Ownership mentality and initiative to make improvements to code, processes, and user experiences across the organization.
  • Commitment to Nexamp's mission and have a passion for solving tomorrow's climate crisis today.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating information, ideas, and perspectives with people inside and beyond your organization.
  • Experience in showcasing initiative to make improvements to current work, processes, products, and services across the organization. We value accountability and an ownership mentality.
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, analyze data, identify the root causes of problems, and present creative solutions.
  • Expertise in building strong internal and external relationships with customers and stakeholders, instilling trust and loyalty across the industry.
  • Eagerness to develop a fundamental understanding of how Nexamp operates and then apply that knowledge effectively to inform business decisions.

At Nexamp, our mission is to build the future of energy so it is clean, simple, and accessible for all. We are committed to providing a work environment free from discrimination. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate against applicants on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability status, veteran status, or any other basis protected by law. By encouraging a culture where ideas and decisions come from all people, we believe it will help us grow, innovate, and be a part of environmental and social change.

You’ll love working here because:
  • competitive compensation package
  • 401(k) employer-match
  • health, dental, and vision insurance starting day one
  • flexible paid time off and holiday PTO
  • commuter benefits
  • cell phone reimbursement

Compensation:

The reasonably estimated salary for this role at Nexamp ranges from $170,000 - $190,000. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual bonus programs based on individual and company performance, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans). Additionally, you may be eligible to participate in the Company’s stock option plan.
