Description & Requirements
Maximus is currently seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator.
This position is remote with the expectation for occasional in-person meetings in Bethesda, MD and requires the ability to obtain Public Trust suitability determination.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement industry best practices for consistent modularized installation and configuration for production and non-production environments, including self-service options to service teams using a DevOps mindset and principles.
- Identify cost saving opportunities surrounding compute, storage, and other cloud resources.
- Troubleshoot, track, and resolve complex database issues, identify recurring problems, and apply fixes.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather requirements and engineer solutions that meets business needs.
- Install, configure, and document high availability and business continuity solutions as per business requirements.
- Implement sound backup and recovery policies and procedures using cloud based backup solutions.
- Monitor production database systems and proactively mitigate performance and configuration issues.
- Lead the database deployments, tech upgrades, and approved changes.
- May provide guidance, coaching, and training to other employees within job area.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study and 5+ years of relevant professional experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job-Specific Minimum Requirements:
- Work will be remote with the expectation for occasional in-person meetings in Bethesda, MD.
- Must be able to obtain Public Trust suitability determination.
- 5 years of experience in conducting SQL Server database administration.
- Extensive experience in administering SQL Server database in standalone and clustered architecture on Windows on premises and in cloud environments.
- Extensive experience in SQL Server backup/recovery, configure failover cluster, setup jobs and monitoring.
- Strong T SQL, performance tuning, and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with SQL Server reporting services, integration services, and analysis services.
- Experiences with SQL Server 2016/2019/2022, SQL Server on Windows, and MySQL on Ubuntu are preferred.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with federal database security standards spanning NIST 800-53, NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF), FedRAMP, FISMA, STIG Hardening, Database Auditing, Zero Trust Architecture, Continuous Monitoring.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale database environments.
- SQL Server performance tuning and optimization.
- Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Database migration and upgrades.
- Experience with cloud database platforms.
- Experience with federal systems.
- Experience leading database administration teams.
