Location: Juno Beach, Florida (Onsite)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior - Substation Project Engineer to join a dynamic Engineering & Construction team. This role involves leading a team of engineers and technical specialists, applying a diversified knowledge of engineering principles to a broad variety of assignments related to conventional renewable generation substation projects. The position requires managing projects from conception through construction and commissioning, ensuring they meet all technical specifications, safety standards, and performance goals.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and manage engineering projects, ensuring they are completed within budgetary and scheduling guidelines.
  • Lead all assigned renewable generation substation projects from the conceptual phase through construction and commissioning.
  • Develop detailed work plans, project estimates, resource plans, and status reports.
  • Provide technical oversight of external engineers of record (EOR) to ensure compliance with interconnection agreements, project specifications, and industry standards (IEEE, NESC, ASCE).
  • Secure engineering consulting resources by developing scopes of work, securing bids, and awarding work.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders to secure substation sites and obtain necessary permits.
  • Manage engineering deliverables, including scope of work documents, design criteria, and as-built drawings.
  • Support the review of interconnection documentation, such as system impact studies and facility studies, ensuring compliance with all ISO requirements.
  • Manage orders for long-lead major materials to mitigate project delays and budget risks.
  • Collaborate with project engineering resources across various disciplines to determine priorities and work plans.
  • Ensure projects are implemented efficiently, cost-effectively, and safely in accordance with established procedures and policies.
Required Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor of Science in Engineering is required.
Experience: 11 to 15 years of experience leading engineering teams and providing oversight for major energy infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with computational tools such as ETAP or EDISON. Knowledge of electric distribution systems, power systems, and ladder logic. Experience with pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and pipe stress analysis (ASME standards). Familiarity with civil/structural design, including foundations, site grading, seismic qualification, and tools like GT Strudel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Professional Engineering (PE) certification.
  • 6+ years of experience in the design and engineering of High Voltage substation projects.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Six Sigma certifications (Black Belt, Green Belt, or Yellow Belt).
  • Project engineering or project management experience with a strong bias for action.
Work Environment
This position requires a valid driver's license as travel between worksites and other locations is an essential function of the role. The selected candidate will spend a portion of their time attending meetings at other worksites or in the field, including occasional travel to various renewable generation substation projects across Florida and North America.
