Pure Power is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to design and produce construction documents for utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) projects of 50 MW and larger. Pure Power is an engineering firm specializing in complex, high-profile renewable energy projects across North America.

Responsibilities 

  • Support the design and engineering of utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects under the guidance of senior engineers. 
  • Perform electrical engineering design tasks including: 
  • Overall system layouts 
  • Equipment selection and technical specifications 
  • Single-line and three-line diagrams 
  • Medium-voltage AC and DC cable sizing and routing 
  • SCADA and communication system design 
  • Grounding system design 
  • Protection, control, and wiring diagrams 
  • Underground collection system and trench layouts 
  • Perform engineering calculations with training and review, including voltage drop, cable ampacity, conduit fill, equipment loading, and related analyses. 
  • Prepare complete construction drawing packages using AutoCAD. 
  • Coordinate with internal project teams and support communication with clients, utilities, permitting agencies, contractors, equipment manufacturers, and consultants as needed. 
  • Support projects during construction by helping respond to Requests for Information (RFIs), reviewing equipment submittals, researching field issues, and participating in site visits when needed. 
  • Balance work on multiple project tasks while communicating progress, questions, and priorities with project leads. 
  • Learn to break down engineering problems into practical design solutions with support from senior engineers and project managers. 
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, industry standards, client requirements, and company quality procedures. 
  • Maintain compliance with company safety policies and applicable industry and regulatory standards. 
  • Participate in internal design reviews and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes to develop sound engineering judgment. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Requirements:

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. 
  • 1-3 years of relevant internship, co-op, academic project, or professional experience related to electrical engineering, solar PV, power systems, or renewable energy. 
  • Exposure to AutoCAD or similar drafting/design software; experience with construction documents, layer management, Xrefs, blocks, plotting, or file management is preferred. 
  • Basic familiarity with the National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical safety concepts, and applicable industry standards, with a willingness to continue learning. 
  • Foundational understanding of electrical circuits, power systems, and engineering design principles. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail. 
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to ask questions, document work, and collaborate with engineering teams. 
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, follow direction, and communicate workload or schedule risks early. 
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and other engineering documentation. 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or interest in pursuing professional licensure. 
  • Internship, co-op, academic, or entry-level experience with solar PV, BESS, power systems, or renewable energy projects. 
  • Experience designing Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). 
  • Familiarity with PVSyst, CYMCAP, ETAP, or similar engineering software. 
  • Exposure to electrical studies such as cable ampacity, voltage drop, grounding, short-circuit, or load flow analyses. 
  • Interest in utility interconnection requirements and utility-scale project development. 
  • NABCEP certification. 

Location

This position will be based out of our exciting Kansas City, KS area office with the flexibility to work a hybrid in-office and remotely weekly schedule. We also provide a parking spot for the days when an employee wishes to drive to the office and for those that utilize public transportation, we will cover the costs associated with traveling to and from the office.


Salary Range

$85,000- 120,000 Annually
