Description
The Junior Project Engineer supports the planning, design, execution, and delivery of mining and mineral processing projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers, this role provides technical, project coordination, and construction support across multiple engineering disciplines, including chemical/process, civil/structural, and mechanical systems.
This role assists with engineering deliverables, project documentation, scheduling, procurement activities, contractor coordination, and field implementation to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable regulations and company standards.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Execution
  • Support the development and execution of mining project plans from concept through commissioning.
  • Assist in tracking project scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering disciplines, operations personnel, consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting minutes, action item logs, and progress reports.
  • Monitor project progress and escalate risks, issues, and delays to project leadership.

Engineering Support
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, calculations, and design packages.
  • Assist with design development and technical evaluations under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Support interdisciplinary coordination between process, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, HAZOPs, risk assessments, and value engineering activities as applicable.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and company procedures.

Procurement & Contract Support
  • Support contractor management activities, including scope clarification and progress tracking.
  • Review vendor drawings and technical submittals for compliance with project requirements.
  • Provide field engineering support during construction, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify construction quality and compliance with project specifications.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues encountered during construction and startup.
  • Support punch-list management, turnover documentation, and commissioning activities.

Project Controls & Reporting
  • Track project action items, requests for information (RFIs), change requests, and technical queries.
  • Prepare status reports and project performance metrics for management review.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and lead by example
  • Comply with applicable mining regulations (e.g., MSHA and/or OSHA )

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Mining, or Electrical related discipline).
  • 0-3 years of engineering or project experience, preferably in mining, industrial, infrastructure, or energy projects
  • Fundamental understanding of engineering design processes and project execution principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or working toward professional registration.
  • Experience with mining, mineral processing, bulk materials handling, or industrial facilities.
  • Experience using engineering and project software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, SolidWorks, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar tools.
  • Exposure to construction, commissioning, or field engineering activities.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Effective teamwork and collaboration across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to work safely in active industrial and mining environments.
  • Demonstrated initiative and willingness to learn from experienced professionals.
