Job description

Role Overview

ID.me is seeking a Senior Fullstack Software Development Engineer to join the Person team. You'll design and build the systems that define who a person is on ID.me - the canonical record of their identity, the APIs that serve it, and the unified experience where members see and manage it.

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in architecting and scaling the Person platform to ensure it is secure, consistent, and performant across ID.me's  ecosystem. You'll partner with design to build the Person experience, and own the Backend for Frontend APIs and services that serve as the source of truth for personal data - working across teams to deliver systems that keep a person's identity accurate and consistent for millions of members and the partners who rely on them.

This position will be based full-time in either our McLean, VA or Mountain View, CA office.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Own the design and implementation of significant areas of the Person platform - the canonical record of a person's identity and the rules governing how it is created, merged, and split. Author and implement UX architecture for the areas you own, contribute to design reviews across the team, and stay hands-on through implementation.
  • Cross-Team Influence: Work closely with teams across ID.me to understand how person data is consumed and embedded in their systems to solve real needs. Represent your areas in architectural forums and cross-team planning.
  • Systems Design & Architecture:  Design and Implement end-to-end of complex, high-impact features across the full stack - from the person data model and services, through Backend for Frontend, APIs, to the unified person experience members interact with.
  • Engineering Excellence: Set the standard for code quality, testing, observability, and incident response. Drive technical debt reduction and platform reliability improvements. Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design critiques, and pairing.
  • AI-Augmented Development: Model and champion AI-first engineering practices - leveraging tools like Claude Code to accelerate design, implementation, and review cycles - and help the broader team adopt these workflows effectively.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of professional experience developing across the full stack in production environments.
  • 7+ years of experience in at least one backend language (Python, Go, or Java) and with modern frameworks.
  • 7+ years of professional experience developing frontend applications (Angular, React etc)  in production environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building user-facing web applications in a modern frontend stack (TypeScript, React) and the Backend for Frontend APIs behind them.
  • Experience with identity resolution or entity matching - deduplication, record merge and split, or data normalization at scale.
  • Demonstrated expertise building, documenting, and evolving public-facing REST or GraphQL APIs used by multiple internal and external consumers.
  • Deep experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and graph or NoSQL data stores.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts - caching, asynchronous processing, event-driven architectures (Kafka, SNS/SQS), and cloud-native patterns.
  • Experience handling sensitive personal data under privacy and security constraints: encryption, access control, auditability, retention and deletion.
  • Experience in regulated or high-assurance domains (government, financial, or healthcare systems).
