Job description

Position Summary...What you'll do...

About the Teamย
Powerful entertainment experiences come from brilliant teams, and at VIZIO, we work together to deliver the latestย SmartCastย TV and Sound Bar Technologies across the world. We are skilled engineers who care about the people they work with, the work they create, and the teams they nurture. At VIZIOย weโ€™reย built around supporting each other in a relaxed, collaborative environment.ย Weโ€™reย focused on learning, doing something new and valuable, and encouraging our team to do the same. With flexible work hours, a collaborative open-door environment, and teams who support each other in and out of the office, our work experience becomes meaningful. (And weย donโ€™tย focus on hierarchy; instead, we work together to create the rolesย weโ€™reย most excited about). Now we need a brilliantย Srย Software Engineer to join us and own the development of our features through the full-release lifecycle.ย
About the Roleย
We are looking for a drivenย Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)ย to support a backend-heavy, microservices-based architecture built primarily in TypeScript. This role requires someone who canย operateย independently and take ownership of automation across both service-level and cross-service testing.ย
Youโ€™llย ensure each service is well-tested in isolation while also building robust integration and end-to-end test strategies thatย validateย how services interact across the system. This is a high-impact role focused on improving reliability, accelerating development velocity, and embedding quality into the engineering culture.ย
ย  What you'll do:

Design and implement automated testing strategies for a distributed microservices architectureย

Build andย maintainย service-level (unit + integration) automated testsย for TypeScript/Node.js servicesย

Developย cross-service integration testsย toย validateย APIs, contracts, and workflowsย

Create and evolve reusable automation frameworks for backend and API testingย

Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines to provide fast, reliable feedbackย

Collaborate with engineers to embed testing into the development lifecycleย

Identifyย gaps in coverage and drive improvements in system reliabilityย

Troubleshoot flaky tests, distributed system issues, and test environment challengesย
ย  What You Bring:
4+ years of experience in an automation-focused role (SDET, QA Automation Engineer, or similar)ย
Strong experience testingย backend systems and microservices architecturesย
Proficiencyย inย TypeScript/JavaScriptย and experience with Node.js servicesย  Strong proficiency in TypeScript and/or C#; experience in Python or Go is a plus Working knowledge in Postman API.
Hands-on experience with automation tools/frameworks (e.g., Jest, Mocha, Playwright,ย Supertest, or similar)ย
Experience withย API, integration, and contract testingย (e.g., Pact or similar)ย
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, etc.)ย
Solid understanding of distributed systems (service dependencies, retries, eventual consistency)ย
Ability toย operateย independently and take ownership of ambiguous problemsย
Nice toย have:ย experience with event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ), Docker/Kubernetes,ย Test containers, observability tools, and performance testingย  ย  Growth & Impactย  This role starts with a strong focus on building a scalable automation foundation across our services. As that foundation matures and becomes embedded within the teamโ€™s workflows, ownership of automation will increasingly shift to the broader engineering team.ย  Over time, this role is expected to evolve into a more traditionalย Software Engineerย position, with opportunities to:ย
Build and ship backend featuresย
Contribute directly to service developmentย
Helpย maintainย and extend the automation ecosystem as a shared team responsibilityย

Weโ€™reย looking for someone who is excited toย lead the automation effort earlyย and grow into a broader engineering role as the team scales.ย
