Calgary, AB

Job description

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely.

We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary:

We're seeking a Product Designer to join our growing Product Design team and help shape the future of Clio's Document Management System (DMS). This role is open to candidates across Canada (excluding Quebec), based out of one of our hubs in Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto. You'll be expected to work in-office a minimum of twice per week on our designated Anchor Days.

Design plays a pivotal role at Clio, standing alongside Product and Engineering as one of the three pillars of our Research and Development organization. Our product designers work directly with customers to understand their behaviors, needs, and workflows. They champion thoughtful, high-quality experiences as we transform how lawyers and their teams serve their clients. If you're focused on shipping value to customers with an opportunity to revolutionize an industry, you've found your next team.

About the role

Clio's Document Management System (DMS) is a foundational part of how legal professionals manage their day-to-day work, and we're investing heavily in its next chapter. Having recently shipped V1, we're building toward a more robust, scalable experience for firms of every size, including more advanced document coordination, collaboration, and review workflows for larger, more complex practices. As Clio's AI capabilities continue to expand across the platform, DMS is one of the places where that intersection matters most, since documents are the backbone of how legal work gets done.

As a Product Designer, you'll join a growing DMS design team and play a hands-on role shaping in-flight projects, from concepting through execution and testing. You'll build strong foundational UI and interaction craft, develop your systems thinking, and grow your research skills with support from more senior designers on the team, all while working on a product area that's core to the business.

Design is central to Clio's R&D, working alongside Product and Engineering to revolutionize legal tech. We empower our Designers to deeply understand user needs, shaping how lawyers serve their clients. If you are passionate about user-centered design, mission-driven companies, and transforming how lawyers and their staff deliver exceptional client services, join us!

What you'll do
  • Execution: Own the UI and interaction execution of in-flight Document Management System (DMS) projects, from concepting through testing, in close collaboration with senior designers on the team.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the DMS design team, sharing ownership of active work streams and flexing focus based on project complexity and where each project is at.

  • Iteration: Help respond to customer feedback following the V1 launch of DMS, and contribute to the roadmap for scaling DMS to larger, more complex firms.

  • AI Integration: Explore how Clio's AI capabilities integrate with document workflows as they expand across the platform.

  • Systems Thinking: Build an understanding of how DMS design decisions connect to the broader product, applying and reinforcing existing patterns rather than setting new strategy.

  • Research: Support research initiatives with backing from the design and research team, building toward running your own studies over time.

  • Craft & Quality: Bring strong UI and interaction craft to every project. This is the top bar for the role.

What you bring
  • Strong visual and interaction design craft, with an eye for polish and detail.

  • 4+ years of Product Design experience working on digital products, B2B SaaS experience is preferred, but not required.

  • A scrappy, resourceful, hands-on approach. We're looking for someone who's worn multiple hats and is comfortable figuring things out

  • Some experience conducting or supporting research studies, with the expectation of building that skill further with team support.

  • Strong foundational UX skills across interaction design, information architecture, usability, and visual design.

  • An emerging sense of systems thinking: able to understand why design decisions are made, even without owning the strategy yourself.

  • Comfort and fluency with AI tools in your day-to-day process. This team is highly AI-forward.

  • Eagerness to learn quickly, take initiative, and share ideas confidently, including as the most junior person in the room.

  • Clear communication of design decisions using logic, customer perspective, and evidence.

Bonus if you have...
  • Experience with document management systems, even consumer-grade tools.

  • Experience designing for regulated or complex, compliance-driven contexts.

This is a new role.

What you will find here:

Compensation is one of the main components of Clio's Total Rewards Program. We have developed a series of programs and processes to ensure we are creating fair and competitive pay practices that form the foundation of our human and high-performing culture.

  • Competitive, equitable salary with top-tier health benefits, dental, and vision insurance

  • Flexible time off policy, with an encouraged 20 days off per year.

  • $2000 annual counseling benefit

  • RRSP matching and RESP contribution

  • Clioversary recognition program with special acknowledgement at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years

The expected salary range for this role is $109,500 to $148,100 CAD. Initial placement within the range is informed by geographic region, experience, and skillset, with room to progress as impact and tenure grow. Final offer amounts will vary based on candidate profile.
