About Ridy

Ridy is a leading climate-tech electric mobility startup that specializes in providing sustainable transportation solutions to corporate campuses, commercial and residential real estate. Ridy partners with leading real estate companies to help them achieve their sustainability and environmental goals, facilitating carbon footprint reduction for developers, property managers, and owners by offering shared, smart electric vehicles as an amenity. We are spearheading the move toward electrified, sustainable transportation to combat climate change.

Ridy has been adopted by the nation's largest corporations and real estate companies, including Tishman Speyer, Hines, Alexandria Real Estate, Boston Properties, Beacon Capital Partners, Lincoln Property Company, the U.S. Department of Energy, Greystar, JLL, CBRE, and many other influential real estate owners.

Role Overview

Ridy is seeking a E-Bike and E-Scooter Operations Technician for a full-time, on-site position based in Chicago, IL. In this role, you will support fleet reliability by performing preventive & corrective maintenance, structured diagnostics, and component-level repairs on Ridy's bikes, e-bikes, e-scooters, and charging stations. This role is designed for early-career technicians who bring foundational technical experience and are building proficiency within Ridy's systems and standards, operating with guidance on complex issues while developing toward independent troubleshooting capability.

Your work keeps our fleets safe, reliable, and ready for the tenants and employees at the properties we serve, directly impacting fleet uptime and rider experience through consistent execution and documentation discipline. Like technicians in any modern shop, this role blends hands-on work with computer-based work. This position requires openness to weekend coverage, and to travel to customer sites across the US and Canada for fleet launches and service visits, occasionally on short notice.

Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform basic to moderate hardware repairs, preventive maintenance, and component-level replacements (motors, controllers, batteries, displays, sensors, wiring harnesses, brakes, drivetrain, and mechanical assemblies) on e-bikes, e-scooters, and charging stations in accordance with established SOPs
  • Work with remote site mechanics to perform the same procedures, guiding them through SOPs and verifying repairs meet Ridy's standards
  • Execute structured diagnostic procedures using approved hardware and software tools
  • Conduct inspections and validation testing to confirm repair effectiveness and vehicle safety before returning vehicles to service
  • Document and escalate complex or recurring failures, working with senior team members and hardware engineering teams to drive them to resolution

Documentation & Inventory

  • Accurately document all work in Ridy's maintenance and ticketing systems, including detailed notes, photos, and supporting evidence to enable review and traceability
  • Order spare parts and components from suppliers; track orders, deliveries, usage, and stock levels using Excel/Google Sheets and Ridy's inventory tools
  • Create and maintain repair procedures and guides for field technicians in other cities using Google Docs/Word or PowerPoint/Google Slides, keeping them current as procedures evolve

Field & Site Support

  • Conduct on-site service visits at customer properties, maintaining a professional presence with property teams and riders
  • Support fleet launches: assemble, pack, ship, and install vehicles, parking racks, and charging stations at customer sites, including travel to launch locations across the US and Canada
  • Coordinate maintenance visits with contract mechanics in various cities — scheduling, sharing Ridy repair procedures, and ensuring repairs are completed to standard
  • Manage equipment drop-offs and pickups using Ridy's company vehicles

Warehouse & Safety

  • Book and coordinate freight shipments for vehicles, charging stations, and equipment, and arrange parts shipments to customer sites, field technicians, and repair vendors — tracking deliveries and resolving shipping issues
  • Maintain organized workstations, tools, and component storage areas
  • Follow all safety and tool-handling standards, including safe charging, handling, and storage of e-bike and e-scooter batteries in line with battery safety protocols
  • Meet defined quality and throughput expectations for assigned work

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify repeat repair patterns and flag potential systemic concerns
  • Provide feedback on process clarity and repair documentation standards
  • Participate in required technical and safety training

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of hands-on technical experience in bicycle/e-bike/e-scooter repair, electro-mechanical, automotive, electronics, or similar industries
  • Demonstrated ability to perform mechanical and basic electrical troubleshooting, following structured processes and SOPs
  • Familiarity with standard diagnostic tools (multimeter, general shop tools) and repair equipment
  • Experience working in shop, warehouse, or field-service environments
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
  • Comfortable working on a computer for a meaningful part of the day — proficient with Excel/Google Sheets for parts ordering, inventory tracking, and reporting; comfortable creating guides in Google Docs/Word or PowerPoint/Google Slides; and comfortable using ticketing systems, task trackers, and Slack
  • Professional written and verbal communication for working with customers, property teams, suppliers, and contract mechanics
  • Comfortable riding bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters, and renting/driving pickup trucks and U-Haul/box trucks for equipment transport
  • Ability to lift and handle heavy objects (50–100 lbs) for assembly, packing, and equipment handling
  • Flexibility to work weekends as needed, and willingness to travel to customer sites in the US and Canada, occasionally on short notice
  • Authorized to work in the United States; this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship now or in the future
  • U.S Citizen, and able to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport (air travel within US & Canada), a REAL ID-compliant license (domestic flights), and a valid U.S. driver's license to operate Ridy's company vehicles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Trade school certification or technical training program completion
  • Experience in micromobility, bike shops, or shared fleet operations
  • Knowledge of lithium-ion battery safety, handling, and storage protocols
  • Exposure to integrated mechanical-electrical systems or IoT-connected hardware

What We Offer

  • Hands-on work at a fast-growing climate-tech startup where your work directly impacts fleet uptime, customer satisfaction, and the future of urban living and mobility
  • Growth opportunities as we expand to new markets and properties
  • A motivated team passionate about customer experience, sustainability and electric mobility
  • Competitive base salary of $45,000–$50,000, aligned with qualifications and experience, plus eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and disability coverage
  • Flexible Paid Time Off and paid sick leave

Additional Information

This role requires regular hands-on work with vehicles, batteries, tools, and shop equipment. Physical requirements include lifting 50–100 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in warehouse, shop, and outdoor field environments in varying weather conditions.
